Hi John,
Thanks for the response. I've tried that 3 times so far today. No change. Is there anything else this could be?
Thanks.

What is your 3G versus 4G signal strength? To see it touch Settings > About Phone > Status and scroll down the page to EVDO/4G LTE Signal strength.
NOTE: As I was writing this response I was also checking my phone's signal strength. My EVDO signal strength was -67 dBm and my 4G LTE signal strength was -0 dBm which explains why my Charge Phone had just gone down from 4G to 3G.

PS, Five minutes later they were EVDO -113 dBm and 4G LTE -104 dBm so right now the Verizon signals are not very good here. Oops the 4G LTE is back to -0 dBm again!

Shouldn't -0dBm be much stronger than -85dBm?

JerryF,
Thank you so much for the details! I really appreciate it! I want you to have the best service possible! Have you recently updated your software to Ice Cream Sandwich? Does that make any difference? What zip code are you having the issues in? We would be happy to investigate further!
Keep us posted,
Katie H

Verizon, why should we have to work so hard to make out phones perform the way they are supposed to??????

Why remove the sim card several times? How can that make a difference? Shouldn't we be given new hardware if the hardware we purchased is no longer capable of holding a 4G signal?

Obviously by the dates on this discussion this problem has been going on for well over a year. I purchased my Droid Charge in April 2012 and also have problems with internet connection strength. When I went to the Verizon store a few weeks ago I was told that this problem is because of a software upgrade that Verizon hasn't been able to resolve. The Verizon rep tried my phone in the store and had the same problem even after removing the battery & sim card. It seems like "dial up" speed on a 4G phone -- go figure. The only solution was for me to contact Verizon, complain & request an different phone replacement (not the Charge as it would have the same problem). When will the software upgrade problem be resolved?

I found this forum after a discovery last night:
I was under the impression that my coverage area was outside the 4G LTE zone (I live north of Jacksonville, FL). Because of an unrelated issue, I factory reset my HTC Thunderbolt. When it rebooted, voila! 4G LTE-- the first time I had seen it in my area. I'm not a telecom expert, so I cannot comment as to why this would remedy the situation, but I wanted to pass it along to others having a similar problem.

I'm sorry are you suggesting Ice Cream Sandwich is available on the droid charge? The last update I got from Verizon was not for Ice Cream Sandwich. If it's available how do we download it? This problem has made my phone fairly useless and given I'm not alone in having it I'd like to know why Verizon isn't doing anything about it except shrugging their shoulders and telling us to unplug things or turn things on and off. We paid for 4g phones and that's all we want.

The ICS update (Android 4.0+) will not be coming to the DROID Charge phone.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
