I have a new Droid 2 Global that is less than 12 hrs old. This morning, when I left for work, it showed about half a battery, but now at work, it is off ... warm ... the charging light is on, but the phone will not turn on.

Does it not turn on at all, i.e. the screen stays dark, or something else, like stuck at the Motorola icon?
If it is really dark, then the only thing to try is a battery pull: remove the charger, pull the battery out, wait say a minute and put it back and try to turn it on.
If that fails, and it's only 12 hours old, then get a replacement from Verizon by calling customer service.
This assumes that you didn't do anything like rooting the phone!
If it is stuck at the Motorola icon, things can be done, but it may just be easier to get it replaced.
