Droid 2 Dialer problem

I have a Droid 2 by Motorola, I have had no problems for the first 9 months then today when I push the dialer app on the front screen it will not go to the dialer screen where I can dial a phone number. Any ideas out there? I have tried taking out the battery and rebooting.

What happens when you select the dialer app?

 

Have you moved any icons around? What happens when you go to the app drawer and select the dialer? The same thing?

What happens when you push the dialer app? Does it do anything? Do you get a screen with the following icons at the top: Dialer, Recent, Contacts, and  Favorites?  If so touch the Dialer icon to get your dialer back.

I have the same problem.  Tech support said I needed to complete wipe my Droid (I refuse to do that because I have too much personal stuff on it that doesn't get backed up).  Have they figured out what's wrong with yours yet?  It feels like a virus of some kind.

 

Some notes:  When I try to bring up the Dialer history, it's fine.  When I try to click on the tab to switch to the dialer, the window closes and returns me to my home page.  When I try to access the dialer directly from my home page, the screen momentarily blinks and returns me to my home page.  Dialing from my contact list works fine.
