Does your Verizon Backup Assistant work

ALL,

My Verizon "Backup Assistant Plus" will NOT sync my contacts.  Anyone else having this problem?

I can sync with Google okay and, of course, with Data Pilot 7 but not Backup Assistant so it's not big deal.

In fact today my wife just bought a new Charge phone and it immediately sync'ed okay.  BTW, we like to have the same phones for trouble shooting.

I thought I would add this.  I talked to some folks at a Verizon store and they said that some Charge phones just will NOT sync using Backup Assistant.  As I already said, I really like Data Pilot 7 better anyhow.

Yes, I am still having this problem. I haven't had a successful sync in a long time, and sometimes my entire contacts list gets spontaneously deleted, and I have to jump through hoops to get it back (downloading my contacts from the backup assistant website, then converting them to a vCard and putting them back on my phone). Backup Assistant does not work (Error Code 10: Unable to read data from Android Contacts Provider), and it appears that this new Backup Assistant Plus is not even made to sync contacts, only user data such as videos, music, pictures and documents. Can Verizon PLEASE address this problem?

Ever since that back up assistant plus came out i've been having problems as well.. good thing for gmail

One thing you can do on android phones is go to applications>manage>all>sync service  clear that out and then run bua

I now have tried both the original BU-Asst and the BU-Asst Plus and also cleared out the data in both Sync Service and SyncMLSvc.  I even uninstalled and reinstalled BU-Asst and BU-Asst plus.

Been to the VZ store and also talked to a tech support person over the phone.  My Charge just will NOT run BU-Asst...period.  BU-Asst has never worked on my Charge phone since it was new in June 2011.

As I said earlier I bought DataPilot 7 for $20 (Google it) and it works so well that I no longer care whether BU-Asst ever works.

BTW, the GMAIL backup works but DataPilot 7 even TRUMPS Google's GMAIL backup.

I might have discovered why one of our two Charge phones can use Verizon's BackUp Assistant (BU-Asst) and the other Charge phone cannot use it.

When I looked at the contact list in my wife's new Charge phone to the right of each individual contact there is a RED colored symbol signifying VERIZON.  This phone is able to backup/sync the contacts using Verizon's BU-Asst but this phone CANNOT backup/sync to her GOOGLE account.

Furthermore, when I looked at the contact list in my older Charge phone to the right of each contact there is a BLACK colored symbol signifying GOOGLE.  This phone CANNOT backup/sync the contacts to Verizon's BU-Asst but it can backup/sync the contacts to my GOOGLE account.

Maybe if I could get both the Verizon RED symbol and the Google BLACK symbol to the right of each of our contacts we could backup/sync to both Verizon and Google.  Does anyone know how to do this???

Take a look at your contact list.  Is your backup/sync ability limited so you can only backup/sync to either Verizon (the RED symbol) or Google (the black symbol).

In reality we may have sealed our own fate when we originally chose where to save the contacts.  Think back, do you remember when you had to make a choice between Verizon (red), SIM Card (who knows the color), or Google (Black).  See atached photo.  To bad we cannot have both or all three.  It makes me wonder if someone had chosen SIM CARD instead of the Verizon (RED or Google BLACK) symbol.  That person may not have been able to backup/sync to either Verizon or Goggle.

Disabe BA because it seem to have issues playing well with smart phone....  I use only Google Backup and haven't had one issue..

Here is the information on how to export from BA and import into Google...

1. Log into Verizon Backup Assistant
2. Click on Export to CSV
3. Save File as (or Rename to) Contacts (it should already be converted to CSV so including .csv is redundant)
4. Log into Gmail/Google Voice
5. Click on Contacts
6. Click on Import
7. Browse for the Contacts (.csv) file
8. Click Import

9. Disable BA by going to Settings / Applications . Manage Applications / All Tab / Sync Service / Clear All

All contacts on youir device should sync to Google if they are not in the BA backup...   Now I do say should because no software is perfect.

Wildman,

My Verizon BU-Asst has been disabled ever since the very first day in June 2012 that I received my phone.  I already have backed up to Google but DataPoint 7 is so good and so easy to do keyboard editing and so easy to move contacts to/from the phone that I really depend on it plus every time I backup my laptop to my external hard disk the backups are backed there too.

Your 9 steps are great BUT my wife's phone will not sync with Google because she has the RED Verizon symbols to the right of each contact so if she moved the contact list from Verizon to Google they would never again be updated/sync'ed in the future.  Somehow she would have to change the RED symbols to the BLACK symbols for each contact so her phone would update/sync with Google.  It's a NO WIN situation.

What do you think about my thoughts why sync'ing may not work on BOTH Verizon and Google?

It makes me wonder if someone had chosen the SIM CARD choice instead of the Verizon (RED)  or Google (BLACK) symbol choice.  That person may not have been able to backup/sync to either Verizon or Google, only their SIM card..  As I said, this appears to be a NO WIN situation.

At any point did you have the contacts transferred at the store by the tech?  I ask because I noticed this issue when the contacts was stored to the device memory instead of synced to Google or BA.

Maybe you can try accessing the contact data with the free version of the app I posted at https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/770529, if that works you can export the contacts, import into Google and then remove them from the device and then sync to Google..  This should place all contacts to Google account.

One question for you....  How is DataPoint 7 easier than simply editing the contacts info on Googles site?  Just wondering...

Wildman,

In both cases the store synced the contacts from the previous phone to the new Charge phone.  For mine they sync'ed them to Google (Black symbol) in my Wife's case they sync'ed them to Verizon (Red Symbol).

DataPoint 7:  the main difference is I have total control and it runs faster, Google is slow.  Another point is I am not a big fan of putting all my contacts, or other personal info, out in/on the CLOUD.

I will download the free version and look at it.

One other thing that made me skeptical is that when I upgraded to"Back Up Assistant Plus" it would not give me the FREE 25GB of space in the cloud.  As careful as I was TWICE it automatically gave me the $2.99 per month larger allotment of cloud space.  I called both times and had the $2.99 removed but I felt they cheated me by forcing the $299 per month.  Don't get me wrong here, I am not saying Verizon purposly cheated me, what I am saying is that I felt cheated.

I understand your concerns with cloud base data storage because it could be a bit risky sometimes but I have had contacts on my Google account pryer to using Android and never experienced any issue so far so I have became a little more comfortable using this method.
