Android Update

Can the DROID X Android Version be upgraded from 2.3.6 without having to download and install a custom ROM? I don't have an SD Card at the time, so it wouldn't be of any help. It upsets me that I can't just go to System Update and go from 2.3. to 4.1... 4.0 would satisfy me. It just gets me that I can't even install Google Chrome from the Google Play Store, and it's just a Web Browser.

If this can be done, can I have specific details? I just recently bought the phone and I do not want to mess it up within the first month of its use. Thanks, for any help in advance. Smiley Sad

It doesn't look like there is any "Formal" update from 2.3.6 . That seems to be the last update written for the Droid X . Did you search the Internet to see what versions of Android were available for it, it what phones were going to be updates to JellyBean? That information is posted on almost every manufacturers site.

The Droid X is not even eligible for the $100 rebate to upgrade to a newer phone that would receive JellyBean.

No, the DROID X is no longer officially supported. Anything unofficial will have to be discussed elsewhere since the Terms of Service here prevents such topics.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

That is just unfortunate.. I was going to call Motorola/Verizon for that $100 rebate.. So technically Verizon and Motorola disown the DROID X? Sad. Thanks for the help though.

No, not disowned, but discontinued because of newer models. I could sell someone my Samsung Fascinate, but that is in the same boat as the "X", it is not supported anymore by Samsung.

The same thing applies for the HTC Droid Incredible or HTC Droid Eris on Verizon Wireless or any other older android device. Heck even the Nexus One is no longer officially supported by Google for the latest updates to the Android OS.

Yep, the old saying, "What's hot today, is not tomorrow..."
