Look, just because some people get excited and discuss something doesn't make it common knowledge.  I could talk about all sorts of development tools, how excited I am, and how I can't wait to get it - but that doesn't mean that everyone else out there knows whats coming.  In fact, I doubt that many people would even know what I was talking about.

You can call "bull" on what some people have to say, but look at it like this.  How many bionic users do you think are out there?  Now how many of those have you seen on forums?  The majority of people out there don't care about getting online to follow updates on things like phones.  Those people are typically only going to be on forums when things go wrong.

Whether you guys like it or not, some people are having issues with the update.  Does it add anything positive?  I honestly couldn't tell you.  I was happy with the way my phone was running, so I didn't look for what may or may not (updates on some phones are few and far between) happen in the future.

So for the sake of the forums, at the very least stop assuming that everyone else thinks the same way and follows the same things that you guys do.  Just because something works flawlessly for you doesn't mean it will work flawlessly for someone else.  Just because you don't experience a bug doesn't mean someone else will.  This is precisely the reason that when software is developed it's sent to QA.  A single person with only a couple of different hardware types will only find so much.  Being closed minded and having an incorrect belief that everyone else's experiences are going to mirror your own are counter productive to the purpose of these forums.

You know i like Responses like this i said my Maxx is Running as Normal as it could be there it is the Word Normal) that doesn't mean that it's Running Poor or it Running Absolutely Devine)  My Maxx has had it's Issues a time or two.. but when it Does i clear it Up. My other Maxx with Gingerbread does about the Same but it has this Nasty little habit of Jumping off the Goggle Servers and Going from blue to White..

But when i mentioned on the Update my point is)  it's there but it's your choice to go with it or Not, it's also your Choice to find out the why's what's and Were's of it before you go with it!  And no one is twisting a persons arm saying it's got to be Updated unless they think a super human being has control of them.  You see were i'm going here)  i have been on here for a Long time Chip i have seen this before went through it before, Had talks on it some were good some not so good. but these OS updates will come and will Go and there will patches that fix them. It just takes time to get them up to were they can be sent out.

Here is my take on it.

I do agree with you that not everyone follows the releases so a popup telling them an update is available might be the first exposure to the update. I also know that for whatever reason person A's experience might not be the same as my experience which might not be the same as Person B's etc...

That said, I am sure some of these went flawlessly, some people had minimum issues and some people bricked their phones with it.

We can dispute anything associated with these but the main point I think we will ALL agree on is Verizon did a horrible job notifying people this was coming (they actually did nothing except update their page telling people it was being pushed) but then you would need to know it was there and be looking at it daily to find this.

How the notifications come out? I will tell you, I was NOT looking at your phone and can only post from my experiences (yours could be different and I have no reason to not believe you so I will say you were getting these way too often for whatever reason, and you did what you needed to do to stop the hounding (I had similar with other apps and finally installed it so it would leave me alone).

So now we are faced with the user experience (everyone's will be different as we all have different things on our phones).

Some things we can help with, some there are nothing we can do except find an app that will change it, and very few there is  nothing we can do about.

If you follow some of our guides you will be able to speed up your phone, extend your battery life and have a better experience on the phone. The difficult part is behind you already which was installing the update and waiting for it to optimize your phone.

We are not here to tell anyone they are wrong, or anything of the like. We are just trying to help out other Bionic Users that might be having difficulties.

Yeah, I think I jumped the gun just a tad.  I went back and reread your original post - and it definitely seemed that you were trying to educate the OP on how things are supposed to work rather than being dismissive (as I first took it).  So for that, I'm sorry for seeming like I was trying to jump on you guys.

It all comes back to the user experience I guess.  The update's "side effects" led to a pretty bad start of the day.  It's not surprising that googling the exact issues led to this forum, so I figured I'd at least chime in; it helps to know that you're not alone in having issues with updates to technology.

I definitely agree with a lot of the suggestions and info that you guys have up here, but at the same time Verizon definitely needs to know they need to make some improvements (such as the point I made above about websites/forums).  Being able to solve technical problems and optimize things is great, but it does no good if the customer is left with a bad taste in their mouth.  Customers have changed providers for a lot less.  You know how it goes though, a lot of companies these days care more about making their money than long lasting customer relations/service.

If you really want to go back the most that can be said is take a look at tikibar1's first reply.  It can't be talked about on these forums.  Take a look at the rules for the forums and hit google.  It can be done.

Really?  I thought that was blocked by the OTA (and for a few previous leaks).  Once the kernel is  properly rewritten to ICS no way back.

I can't speak for all phone models, but my understanding is that phones much like computers can be completely backed up and restored to a specific state.  If there are any that differ, I haven't heard of it - but I also only care to look up info on things I personally own (Bionic, Evo), so take that with a grain of salt.  But I can say I've seen a few things here and there that speak of ICS and Gingerbread - but some of the issues people have with the changes in ICS may already be addressed in other... er... ways.

Think about your phone as a computer running a linux kernel (it is, although slightly modified).  That being said, these phones are capable of a lot of the things that PCs are as well.  The main differences is the actual devices are slightly different than they would be on PC, so referencing them is a bit different.  In fact, the phones provide typical shell commands which may only be mentioned is if you're developing an app for android, and are even capable of pentesting given the right environment.  Even old school giant bricks of phones were capable of some amazing things if you could think outside of the box, but I digress.  Consider that linux is capable of a great number of things and being unable to be modified isn't one of them.

So yeah, that thing in your pocket is just a specialized PC, most people just don't think of them that way.

I'd love to directly answer the question, but last time I even mentioned "he who shall not be named" resulted in moderation.

Of course I wouldn't know about any of that, my phones are awesome stock

OK, thanks.  I think encrypted bootloaders in Moto phones actually IS the difference between this and a standard Linux kernel.  But as you say, has to be discussed elsewhere!

Yeah, they do there but they're designed to deal with malware and other things that don't have digitally signed kernel.  But all of our updates are signed.  But, yeah, I'm going leave it that as other droidforums are around for that kind of talk
