D2G freezing up ALOT

I have had my Droid 2 Global since January and up until this point it had been doing fine. However, within the last week it has been freezing up on me, end phone calls on its own, etc. Within the past 36 hours the phone has frozen up on multiple occasions and will not unfreeze unless I remove the battery which I had to do at least 5 times up to this point.

I went to the Verizon store yesterday and the lady did a software update  on it and informed me that I had to many apps on my phone. I had only about 20 downloaded but apparently that's to many. I thought the point of a droid was to have the apps so that surprised me that 20 is to many. She said I should get rid of ones I don't use very often.

So I removed a bunch and now I am down to 8. Since I went to the store yesterday it has frozen up 2 more times and I had to remove the battery to more times.

I am jut getting very frustrated because this is a very expensive phone, its very inconvenient and the Verizon lady said the next option would be for me to do some kind of restart that removes everything from my phone.

Is there any other option? I read on another post that there is a one year warranty on the phone. Is this true? I also have insurance on this phone and would rather get a new phone versus having to do this restart that will take everything off my phone.

Please let me know what you all think.

Thank you!!!

The "remove everything from your phone" part doesn't actually do that. All of the "data" on your sd card is kept. It's known as restore factory defaults, and is a common troubleshooting step. If you get a "new" phone, the phone won't be new (it will be refurbished ) and you'll be in the same situation anyway.
Restore factory defaults is what i was going to recommend as the next step as well.
When you do a factory data reset, things like text messages, call history and possibly contacts (depending on where they are stored) may be lost. For contacts and texts I know there are applications that allow you to back them up beforehand if you like.
To do the factory data reset from the home screen click options, privacy, factory data reset and follow the instructions. You'll need to associate your phone with your google account again after it is complete.

Twenty apps isn't a lot of apps for a 1Gig processor to work with....I would call at Verizon tech. I've gotten more BAD advise from instore employees than you can shake a stick at. I always call Verizon. I have about 40 apps on my phone and it works just fine. It is more likely that a particular app you downloaded, just before the freezing started, is the culprit. When checking out apps, always look at the user reviews, that gives you a pretty good idea on the feedback.

I was in a Verizon flagship store last year and they told me that I shouldn't have Lookout Mobile Security on my phone and to unintall it and do a hard reset to completely eradicate it from the phone. Turns out, it was named security app of the year by a leading PC magazine and has won numerous awards. I called a Verizon tech and sure enough, he said it was a good app and used it on his phone. Hope that helps.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and troubleshooting tips. Adding to what was said, maybe one of the applications that was downloaded is still on your device is causing it to freeze. Please try making sure you are not running many applications at once or use an app called Advance Task Killer to make sure applications are closed.  Perhaps deleting one specific applications on the device can eliminate what is causing the phone to freeze.

Thanks,

Thanks everyone for the comments... Sorry for not commenting back til now, I completely forgot a posted this up here until now.

The phone has been doing better.... however it still does freeze sometimes but not as often as before.

I really do not want to do this restore on my phone so for now i am just going to wait.

Maybe I do have a bad app on my phone but I only really downloaded "normal apps" ie: no games except tetris, and some english translators, exchange currency for an upcoming trip to Europe and news apps like BBC, NYTimes and Fox news.
