Contact Issue

I've noticed that on my Droid and now my Droid 2 that when I go to view a contact I can't see their phone numbers unless I go to EDIT the contact. Any ideas? I love my Droids but at this point a 10 year old Nokia handles contact management better than this thing!

the picture to the left of the contact will bring up options for contacting that person(phone, sms, mms, email etc) and selecting the phone reciever on teh right will bring up available phone numbers for that contact.

You know, it shouldn't be this difficult to do simple stuff.  Like find a contacts phone number or to text them.  Im an owners manual kind of guy.  This finding how to operate this phone by trial and error or through this forum (thank goodness for it!!) is ridiculous.

I must admit.  I'm a techie person and I love the things it does, I just wish there were easier ways of finding out what/how it does what it does!!!!  Thank goodness I didn't do a phone reset....

There is an owners manual you can download in pdf format format the support pages.  It's also in the "help center" on one the many droid2  home screens. And, as a last option, you can request to have a hard copy sent to you by calling VZW.

This is really not a good solution. If the contact only has one number or you have set a default number it immediately dials the person. If what you wanted to do was just look at the number, to say give to somebody that asks if you have so-and-so's  number? You look it up and dial the person instead or have to go into the edit function. This is a known bug with contacts that are linked to FB. Workarounds are not solutions and if the powers that be think the workarounds are good enough they won't work on real solutions.

Thanks for actually understanding my issue and yes, work-arounds are not fixes! I've since corrected this problem by going to a different platform. Oh well when Google gets it act together and solves these simple but unbelievable flaws I'll come back.

I'm not seeing this. I can tap any contact and see the phone number. Even contacts with multiple numbers shows me all of the numbers, I do not have to tap the edit button.

Just to be clear, this isn't a Google problem. This is a Motorola problem. The contacts app on the D2 is the Motorola flavored version, not the one that Google shipped. Google's contacts application doesn't exhibit this problem.

I completely understand that whether or not the problem belongs to Motorola or Google doesn't change the fact that it exists and is a pain, but you should also not blame the Android platform for a problem that it didn't create and can't fix.

I have doubts about the whole motorola flavored contact issue since my D1 with stock 2.1 and updated 2.2 exhibited the same problem on contacts that had been synced with Facebook. And to clarify this particular issue is not what caused me to switch. I will give a brief list of my why not to use the current droid line...

1. Poor battery by comparison to it's competitors.

2. Inconsistant performance

3. Constant lag even after factory resets

4. Poor voice quality (I did try 3 different models so it's not any one phone.)

5. Poor email management without 3rd party software

there are others but these are my real hot button issues currently.

I have the same issue.  Some contacts' phone numbers display but others don't.  I have to actually edit the contact to see them.  That is quite annoying!  Whether it is Android or Motorola it should be reported as a problem.  This is a phone first and foremost so the phone numbers should display for every contact that has one!
