City location failure

I have tried to get weather information but the app asks that I add a city.  When doing so, the app says that it can't add a city and to try later.  Tried 15 to 20 times to no avail.  Also, when the weather app tries to acquire, it fails.  This in addition to the inability to text people (messages arrive as gibberish or a blank screen) is highly frustrating.  Unfortunaely, the 14 day return period has just passed (out 22 days) or I would exchange the Droid 2 Global for something that works.  Looks like I'm stuck for two years without much capability.

This isn't typical of the Droid 2 Global so I would think it is a problem with your actual handset.  Take it into a store or call Customer Support to get a replacement.

They will doubtless require you to do a battery pull and then a factory reset to see if that fixes the issue.  Have you tried those?

Also, when texting, are you using the stock Messaging application, or something you have downloaded from the market?

I'm using whatever came with the Droid 2 Global.  I have not downloaded anything (just about every time I try to download something, I get a message that there is a problem and I should try later).  I have made several trips to the store (which is not real convenient as it is a 25 minute drive each way) but they have not fouind anything wrong with the phone.  Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Thank you silver6055 for taking the time to provide a troubleshooting tip. It is very much appreciated.

SkyHawkPA, have you tried only entering the zip code into the application instead of city and state?

If so, and if you are still having trouble with your device, please call our Technical Support team, from an alternate phone, and call 1-800-922-0204, option 3. Please have your device with you, fully charged if you need to call.

Thank you.

Thanks KellyW, but I never get as far as adding a name.  When I press the add button , I get an error message that says:  "Can't add new city now.  Try again later."  Just a bit frustrating.  Oh well, the phone part seems to work OK even if not much else seems to.

Hello,

I'm sorry to learn that the previous troubleshooting tips didn't work out.  Please follow the steps outlined below to see if this helps:

Accuracy can be improved by enabling GPS satellites by pressing the MENU button, select Settings, select Location & security and then select Use GPS satellites, enabling this setting will have a negative impact on battery life.

If you are still having the same issues, I have sent you a Private Message with instructions to follow as we will then get into account specific information.  Community Members, if I speak with this user directly, I will follow-up and post the resolution.

Thank you.

After some troubleshooting on my end, I found a cause for this issue. The stock weather widget apparently is being bunched in with social widgets under the data manager settings.

Go to home > menu > settings > data manager

Look at the bottom under "Application data delivery" and tap on "Social applications" to see the sync settings there. I can almost guarantee you that the "Sync over Wi-Fi only" option is checked. Once I unchecked it, I was able to add cities and update data over the mobile network.

Of course, this means that the weather widget is working perfectly fine if you're connecting to a wifi network. However, not all of us have such luxury and gotta burn through some mobile data to get things done.

Also, mind you I'm running a Droid 4, so the instructions may be slightly different. I doubt the Gingerbread weather widget between our phones is all that different anyways.

Hope this helps you out!
