Bionic, ICS and other complaints.

Ok, so I saw a couple pages claiming that the HTC Rezound, Droid Razr/Maxx and the Moto Xoom 3G/4G were to be receiving the ICS update sometime in May. Now obviously we should all take what we see on the internet with a grain of salt until Verizon actually makes an announcement, however reports of them getting ICS is becoming more frequent which almost lends the rumors some credibility, even if that's just my opinion. Now my concern is what about the Bionic? The Xoom I can totally see, seeing as how that device was out longer than the Bionic was, but what's the excuse for the Rezound and the Razr/Maxx? The bionic was out before these devices, yet it seems like they're getting updates more frequently and it looks like, in my eyes anyway, that the Razr/Maxx is getting special treatment.

Again, I know that nothing is set in stone about ICS and these devices, but we were promised many things with the Bionic which none have been addressed. We were told that they would consider unlocking our bootloaders, which they did, on a separate phone(Droid Razr), and in the UK under the guise that it's a developer phone. I mean, seriously? Moto needs to take a page out of HTC's book and listen to the communities concerns.

We were also promised ICS towards the end of 2011, then again at the beginning of 2012, now we're almost at the middle of 2012 and I've heard zero reports that the Bionic is getting ICS anytime soon. Yet these phones that came out later than the Bionic have reports coming left and right, though credible or not is not the point. All I've heard from Moto on the Bionic is empty promises and it's really aggravating. I'm not even going to start complaining about the fact that I have bloatware(applications that I do not want on my phone, and that I can't uninstall unless I go through the process of (deleted content to comply with VZW ToS) my phone) on a phone that I spent good money on. And before you Moto and Verizon fanboys get on my case about how "it's their phone, they can do what they want". Ridiculous, I paid for the phone and I should choose what applications can go on it or not, especially since some are constantly trying to get internet access which drain my battery, or have permission to use sensitive information on my phone itself. Yes, I get the phone at a discount, FOR RENEWING A 2 YEAR CONTRACT. Obviously if I went with the Galaxy Nexus or the Rezound I wouldn't have this problem, but I was one of the unlucky people who got the Bionic with these wild claims of unlocked bootloaders and ICS, just to get shafted by Big Red and Moto. But I digress.

At any rate, this will be my last Moto phone. I had the OG Droid which in my opinion is one of the best smart phones to ever hit the market and I really was grateful that it was on Verizon, but Moto has just been a huge disappointment with the Bionic.

I love my Bionic.

I love it without ICS.

ICS will be nice, and I'm looking forward to it, but I don't need it.

And I sure didn't buy the Bionic because I was promised ICS on it...especially since there were no promises; estimates/predictions aren't promises.

I love it even with 'bloatware'.

'Bloatware' occupies a tiny bit of more-than-ample space and affects nothing.

Nearly all phones come with it.

None of my bloatware is "constantly trying to get internet access".

People who get upset about things that don't really matter just luv getting upset.

I love my Bionic.

I wish people who don't love theirs would just carry through on their threats to leave and quit their pointless whining.

The Razr Maxx has been inherited as the flagship device for Verizon at this time and this is probably the reason for them getting more attention.  The original Razr is the same device as the Maxx without the battery upgrade so its not surprised that it sees most of the same updates the Maxx has seen.

Motorola is basically still standing around the report that they did not and would not consider unlocking the devices bootloaders that are on the US devices and basically this normally wouldn't concern a basic everyday user anyway because they really wouldn't notice the differences, HTC unlock method is still very restricted and it still is noted to void the warranty of the device is it is used so I do not see where this is a positive thing.

Please give me more information on what you think the unlock bootloader and ICS will offer to you that you can not do on the device at this time..

This person was venting about how he feels about HIS phone; who cares how you feel about yours?  Start your own "I love my Bionic" thread.

Who cares what you think about my reply?  Start your own "I don't like your reply" thread.

Apparently you didn't know that this is a public forum or maybe you don't know how public forums work.

To say that "you should never disagree with the OP and so should only post replies that agree with the OP" shows that you must be new to this world.  Noobs should read the rules before they post.

If the OP has the right to vent their glands on this forum in a rant then I have the right to post a reply to that rant.

Dude, Imclaurin had it right. I'm venting about how I feel about my phone, not yours. That's good that you like your phone, but that's not what this thread is about. There's a bunch of threads of people who love their phone, and probably even some that don't understand why other people don't, however that's not my problem, neither is the fact that you love your bionic.

It's true that it is a public forum, however replying to a thread that states that I'm not happy about my phone, by coming and replying how much you love yours shows how petty you are, more so than me posting this thread. Whatever makes you happy though, go for it, but I have nothing to say to a person that says I'm wrong because I don't like my phone. Like you said, it's a public forum. You don't like that people complain? Tough, that's how the world is, everyone complains about something whether it's me complaining about my phone, or you complaining that we shouldn't complain.

If you're happy with what you got, than why even come here? Do you stalk these boards looking to find a post like mine just so you can say I'm wrong? What, are you bored? Get over yourself.

To Wildman - I understand that Big Red has made the Razr/Maxx their new flagship phone, but does that mean that they should just forget about the Bionic? Maybe that's a little harsh the way I'm viewing the situation, but this thread is all about my personal preference.

As for Moto's stance on unlocked bootloaders, than why is the UK "Developer Edition" of the Razr unlocked? Seems inconsistent if you ask me. Why even make a developer edition if they're going to stand by their locked bootloader policy?

Of course the average user doesn't care about an unlocked bootloader, but what about the ones who do? HTC and Samsung embrace the modding community because, and this is my opinion of course, they see how useful they can be and can maybe even help with certain problems a phone may have that they didn't catch. I know for a fact that Samsung actually brought on board a Mod Guru(Steve Kondik) from the community to help them.

Yes, (deleted content to comply with VZW ToS) your phone voids the warranty, but that's a risk people are going to take regardless, so why restrict my phone because of issues they have with people voiding their warranties? If the bootloader is unlocked, a voided warranty doesn't matter because of backups we can make. There are workarounds even now, but it would just be a simpler process if the bootloader was unlocked.

The reason I want my bootloader unlocked is personal preference.

When I had my OG Droid, I modded that thing like it was going out of style. I overclocked the processor, I changed the way the framework looked, I put the most recent OS on there before it was officially released by Big Red(main reason for that is because the modding community is awesome to say the least and really know how to unlock a phones true potential that Moto seems to want to lock down now)

The reason I want ICS is because it's the latest OS. I'm able to remove bloatware without having (deleted content to comply with VZW ToS) my phone in anyway whatsoever. And for people saying that it's not a big deal, it doesn't use that much resources, ect. It's the fact that it uses resources to begin with. I don't want it on my phone, but I can't remove it either. And just because "nearly all phones have it" Doesn't make it right.

All in all, people are going to (deleted content to comply with VZW ToS their phones anyway, so just let them. The (deleted content to comply with VZW ToS) community is not going away, and they're smart, smart enough to find workarounds for locked bootloaders and other locked down software. By restricting the phones that these people, myself included, paid good money for is ridiculous, and because of this, I won't buy another moto phone even if it's just on principle. I won't leave Verizon and never claimed I would, only that I won't buy Moto again. It's not a threat, just a statement of my opinion on the company.

Imclaurin, I just want to say thank you dude.

Edit:

I would also like to know why I'm being moderated? I noticed that this long post was actually taken down and now it's back up? Just curious.

I'm well aware of what kind of forum this is; it's for all opinions.  For you to chime in and insult someone elses' opinion and call it whining and wish they would, essentially, go away is the height of arrogance and rudeness.  YOU should learn some manners.  You must be a "noob" using grammar; I never said "you should never disagree with the OP and so should only post replies that agree with the OP", so don't quote something that was never said.
