...Because you might screw around and get it...:smileymad:

Or "A Tale About a Boy and his Extended Battery". Either way.....

I finally ordered and got the extended battery from Verizon, accompanied by the new battery cover for the thicker battery. I had read around here that folks were using the regular battery cover, so I aped along and used it as well. Put my snappy phone cover/holster combo together and off I go. Ahh, yes, getting a solid day and a half of phone use before the battery shows 30% down. Still charge it at bedtime, but no need to charge it on the ride home. Lovin it, lovin it....

But wait...now there are "swirly things" happening on my screen when I press it. Wildman sets me straight with the directive to USE THAT BATTERY COVER THAT PEOPLE MUCH SMARTER THAN I SENT ALONG WITH THE EXTENDED BATTERY (my caps, not his, and thanx again, WM). Well, okay then. So I dutifully replace the standard door with the proper door. And again, all is well.

But wait...Now my snappy phone cover/holster fits tightly. VERY tightly, nay, too tightly. Aww, man, now what? Again the extended battery and its cover are causing this condition. Not only that, but again, the swirly things are back. and it doesn't fit the car dock now, the dock that was especially modified (thank you, Mr Dremel) to fit my phone while using the aforementioned snappy phone cover sans holster. However, it DOES fit with the NEW car dock and the insert that supplied to use the phone without a cover, snappy or otherwise. Okay, that will work...

But wait (hmm, seeing a pattern here...)...NOW I have no phone cover on my phone. My snappy, you know, is now in the desk drawer. I can use the cool fiber X cover, but it doesn't fit in the car dock. and that fiber cover is a *bleep* to get on and off (saved the forum software the trouble), so it's not practical to take on and off for use with the car dock. Not only that, but I have to use a (shudder, hack, cough, sob, sniff, etc) a large "Blackberry"-style generic holster off of a rack at the truck stop. A new low, to be sure (with apologies to the truck stop....:smileysurprised). I tried carrying the phone in my pocket, but didn't care for that and I had to listen to "Is that a phone in yer pocket or are you happy to see me" Do I LOOK happy to see you??? (oh, sorry, Boss)

Perhaps one of those "gel thingie" covers would work, I'll try that next. But, hey, I'm getting GREAT battery life.

As I said, be careful......:smileyvery-happy:

Oh, well, Geri "on a mission" O

That story so made my night.  Hopefully someone will read that and learn what is a good idea from the get go. :smileyvery-happy:

PS Congrats on getting BOTB. :smileyvery-happy:

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Man...if I could write my research papers as well as you wrote that, I would get better grades.  Well done :smileyvery-happy:

Thanks, Bansale.

I suppose I should provide and update to my trials and tribulations on this dilemma.

There was a thread where a poster was having the same issue and a responder suggested cutting out the back of the cover where the extended battery's door is. I do wish I could remember who the responder was and thank them again. I took my Dremel (man, it seems that Droid Xs and Dremels have a strange and wonderful relationship...:smileyvery-happy:) with the fiber cut-off wheel and cut out that section and presto! Now I can use my snappy cool Verizon cover/holster combo again. I think I will have to be mindful of working outdoors and dust accumulating around the battery door and getting underneath, since that part of the phone is now exposed.

And I don't have to remove the cover anymore to use the car dock, since I used the Dremel (!!) to trim out the dock for the cover to fit.

Life is good (again).

Interesting. I have the car dock and use it daily with the extended battery. Also fits perfectly with the mulimedia dock. No problems for me and it fits like a glove. I also tried it with the standard cover with no problems but switched back to the extended cover cause I like the look and feel of it. The extended battery is well worth the price and I get at least a couple more hours on it. Get on the phone for this guy and Verizon will probably give you a deal. I have an employee discount program and ordered two more, for my boys with Droid Xs, yesterday for a total of $31 each.

Well, as the story above was unfolding, I had determined that the extended cover- equipped X did indeed fit nicely in my car dock when I didn't have the phone inside a cover. It was the snappy Verizon cover/holster combo that was giving me problems.

Recently, following the advice of another forum poster, I used our friend, Mr. Dremel, to trim out the snappy cover to got around the extended battery door. I had already used our friend to trim out the car dock (with the insert removed) to fit the snappy cover-equipped phone.

Now I'm using the snappy cover/holster combo and the car dock again. Life is good.
