Battery Issue

I wonder does anyone have any advice for the battery draining on a Droid Charge?  It began last week, before the system update and has continued since that even without using the phone, the battery drains at roughly 10% per hour.  I've had the phone for almost a year and usually could go roughly 24 hours of light use without running the battery out and now without even touching the phone, the battery only lasts 10 hours max.  Thanks to anyone who can provide an idea to help resolve the issue!

Sounds like the life of the battery is going.  Upgrade to the extended battery.

Power down your Charge, pull the battery, leave it out for a few mintues. Put it back in and make sure that there is no dirt, dust etc in there and that it is put back in nice and tight. Power the phone on and turn the auto brightness off, turn the display brightness all the way down, and in the browser settings do that too. Uninstall any useless apps that you dont use, turn off all animations, change any settings for pushing data to at least every 3 hours or more, try not to leave to many apps running at once in the background. I force close alot of apps too when I don't need them for awhile, google maps, rhapsody, tunewiki, slacker, etc. Make sure you reboot your phone every few days, having large amounts of up time could also be draining battery. These are just some of the things you could try, they may not work, but I find them to be rather useful. Good luck to you matt, and or like RomsRfun said, try purchasing a new Samsung OEM battery. It could be that your battery is just shot too, extreme heat, cold, etc could drain it quicker than most.

To clarify, I do monitor all the apps, have my email pushes set to hours, and all these items. As previously stated, the battery usually lasts a full day but now just 10 hours.  When checking the power usage, Cell Standby is the highest juice guzzler, with the time on being equal to the amount of time since charged, which makes me think this is a software issue and not something which would simply be resolved by upgrading (or even replacing) the battery.

Hi mattbaylor3,

I know you want to get the most out of your Samsung Charge’s battery life.  I would like to help.

First, I’d like to thank the Community for the great feedback & suggestions!  Since you mentioned you noticed the change after the last software update, this would indicate the battery life issue is software related.  This could be caused by one of the applications (3rd party or pre-installed) not reinstalling or closing properly.  Let me suggest testing the device in Safe Mode for a few days so we can find the problem application.  http://bit.ly/zEjHUD  If the battery lasts much longer in Safe Mode then I suggest removing applications one at a time to find the culprit, or you can just perform a Hard Reset to start the device afresh. http://bit.ly/HsXYkv

Please, let me know how this works out for you.

Thanks,

are you using 3G or 4G?  on 4G, I can get 12 hours, but on 3G, I get at least 20 hours (both with light use).

could be the data tower near you has had some problems (there has been discussion of VZW 4G outage, but they'll rarely admit it).  data connections tend to have the biggest drains on battery consumption.

My husband and I are having the same issue with both of our Samsung Droid Charge phones. It seems to have started right before or after the last big software update. My phone was fully charged yesterday and I turned it off last night and it is fully drained now. My husband has the same issue too. My phone is 11 months old and my husbands is only a month. Lately we have just mostly used it for phone calls so it should not be draining like this.

Alas! My family's Verizon DROID Chage phones are not the only ones with power issues.  Before this recent update my Charge phone would dump power overnight after being charged up, disconnected from charger, WiFi checked off, phone powered off.  Now, after the update to operating system ... I turn the phone on in the morning, power icon says fully charged, but within hours the phone bleeps and indicates the battery is nearly fully depleted!  This morning, oddly April 1st, it showed one-half depleted within a half hour of turning it on!  I have checked that WiFi is off, all apps ( I never leave them on after use knowing they use up power and never have WiFi and Mobile Data running at the same time because they fight each other ... or so the Verizon Tech said ).  Anyway this is a serious issue!  When I had the earlier issue Verizon gave me a new battery under warranty ... then when the problem continued Verizon gave me a new phone ... now after the software update ... what happens now?  I sent an email to Verizon about this, but got no answer.  I guess my next move is to call the technicians.

wn6v,

First phone battery problem.  First phone new battery still a problem.  Second phone still a problem.  To me, this is starting to look like an APP problem as in one of your APPs is killing your battery.

First and foremost, uninstall any APP related to your battery such as a battery saver.  The battery saver APP Juice Defender was killing my battery and that APP has the distinction of being the very first APP I installed and the very first that I uninstalled.

Second, you may have to start uninstalling APPs, one by one, that you installed.  Touch Settings>Applications>Battery Use to try and see which APP or whatever is using the most battery power.

BTW, if you have installed the newest FP1 update reboot your phone THREE times more before you do anything else and then check out the battery usage.  With the GB 2.3.6 I have seen folks say that a feature was not working and later it started to work.  I already saw this same comment for the FP1 update.  Believe me, you need to reboot your phone at least three times more after any software update
