Been getting "Backup Assisant failed sync error code:5" on my Samsung Charge but when I go into settings it says my contacts were backed up. And it will backup when I do it manually. What does this mean?

Hi Riteshny,
Thank you for your posting. I would like to ask if you have tried the steps outlined by Samuel in his previous posting. They are:
"My next step in troubleshooting would be to go into Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>Backup Assistant>Clear Data>Force Stop.
If this does not help with the error I would next advise a master reset on the phone. You can take these steps to do that: From the main screen>touch menu tab>Touch Settings>Touch Privacy>Touch>Factory Data reset>Touch Reset Phone>Touch Erase Everything."
Please make sure that the device is backed up to a PC before the Master Reset, to make sure that no important information is deleted.
You can then re-download Backup Assistant and view the contacts at http://www.vzw.com/backupassistant
Please post back and let us know how these steps work for you. Thanks and have a a good day!

Dear lizzy5g,
I don't honestly know what that error message is. I tried an internet search but did not get anything on that message number.
Have you confirmed that your contacts are in fact backed up? To do this, go the the verizonwireless website and sign in to your My Verizon page. You should be able to navigate to Backup Assistant and see that your contacts are in fact on the Verizon servers. If so, I would treat this error message as more of a nuisance than anything else. If Backup Assistant is in fact doing it's job, you are good...

Thanks for the post. I did do some research on this error and it does not seem to be a known issue for the charge. My next step in troubleshooting would be to go into Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>Backup Assistant>Clear Data>Force Stop.
If this does not help with the error I would next advise a master reset on the phone. You can take these steps to do that: From the main screen>touch menu tab>Touch Settings>Touch Privacy>Touch>Factory Data reset>Touch Reset Phone>Touch Erase Everything. I hope this helps. Thank you.

I get this if it tries to backup and I am using Wifi instead of mobile data (3G/4G). Seems to work on a 3G or 4G connection.

I am getting the same error on my Droid Charge. It does not sync at all...wifi 3G or 4G. I started getting this error recently, and it seems like Backup Assistant is constantly trying to sync and failing. Resulting in what else.. battery drainage!
Also I tried doing a clean on my Backup Assistant account online, and now I have random contacts saved online that ARE NOT IN MY PHONE! There is clearly some bug with Backup Assistant and the data it stores.

Christina,
"Please make sure that the device is backed up to a PC"
How do I do that? It seems like something I would want to do frequently.
I see a setting "Back up my data" in "Privacy" in "Settings". It indicates it backs up current settings and app data, but doesn't say how to force it to happen, how to check whether it is done, or how to restore if necessary.
Could you give me some pointers on those issues?
Thanks.

I am getting the same error message and have contacted Verizon tier 2 support. After clearing the cache in the 2 different areas recommended, it didn't help. Then they suggested a restore default, which I really hestiated doing, but did it. IT DID NOT HELP AT ALL!! Very frustrating.....

URGENT...before you mess up your contact list may I suggest that you do what I did. Google DataPilot 7 and BUY their $19.95 software backup package. It works great with the Charge phone! Then backup your contact list into your own computer BEFORE you do anything else.
And please refrain from telling me you shouldn't have to buy some other backup software. I already know that but "better safe than sorry." I spent a lot of time getting all my contacts set up with various phone numbers and even email addresses and, at least for me, I was not about to destroy that list. I have used DataPilot for backup with my phones starting with Version 3 to today's Version 7.
I do have one hint for you, when you touch CONTACTS and your contact's list comes up, to the right of each contact is there a RED colored Verizon Icon or is it a black colored g for Google. I think you may need to have the red colored Verizon Icon in order to use Verizon's Backup Assistant.
Check this out and, please, let me know...okay!!!
Thanks and best of luck,
JerryF
