Guess a factory reset is in my very, very near future. Can I do that if I can't turn off the phone?  I tried removing the battery but it just reboots itself,

*** Note to everyone on looping BOOT every 3 minutes or so ***

Just talked to 2nd level tech support and did the factory reset.      Even though it's a reset, Android 2.3 is there !!!  Yeah!!!

Power down using the button.

Hold the up(volume) + Home button simultaneously... and Push the POWER button.

hold ALL 3 buttons until you get the SAMSUNG logo..... then let it go.... this will bring up the new setup button.

GOOD LUCK !!

Got the update! When I unlocked my phone at 5:15 am the pop up was waiting, so I switched to wifi, the while process took about 13 minutes. Love this update. Phone is snappier, browser speed seems better, moving between home screens is smooth, the unlock screen is now smooth, my 4g is fast! 23mbps download and 9-10mbps upload on average. Before it was around 11-13 download and 2-4 upload. The phone boots up a bit faster it seems. I also like the subtle hints of refreshed UI, like the all black menus when you press the menu bottom on the phone, I like the orange over glow as well. Everything seems really solid. I reset my phone last night before I went to bed, downloaded the update on wifi with the battery fully charged icon on, and on the charger,...let it do its thing, once it started back up, I rebooted again and I have been enjoying it since.

averagejane,

Because you cannot turn off your phone try this...Remove battery, remove SIM card, and remove SD card.

Wait 2-3 minutes, all the time hugging your phone, and then re-install the SD card, the SIM card, and then the battery.

Not sure but hope this helps.  It cannot hurt.

2.3.6 is on my phone! Philly area, got it 12/3 early in the AM... Took about 17 mins like it said and went smoothly! I'd recommend rebooting the phone one more time after it finishes booting the first time and finishes the SD card scan

Well like so many here today is the say.  The update came through even here in rural, 3G only Southern Oregon.  Plan to do a reset then wait for the message again and update.

The BATTERY life seems way better. I was getting terrible batt life with 2.2.1, but so far it seems like a different phone. Minus the lack of google talk with video, I am happy with the phone now and will delay my next phone purchase until the quad core ones come out.

Yea I've had 4g on all day found the same amount of things on this phone and I'm still at 50% battery, when by this time I'd be at 65% or so and had it locked to 3g only. Tomorrow I'm going to lock it to 3g only and see how long I get....should be much better! Love this update! Runs so well now, no issues at all in any way.
