As I have tried to point out in other posts that I have made, we should be getting our information from Verizon or Motorola.  Those are our official sources of information.  When you start to follow any other source you are really opening yourself up for disappointment.

I just reread PCW's post.

I missed that image link.

If that message said Droid X was supposed to be the first to have Flash 10.1 support, then riddle me this.

Why the heck are we dead last next to the LG Ally?

Not to mention (speaking of official documents) this letter that was obviously put on verizon's site, that I just got from a post on the moto forum:  http://a.imageshack.us/img19/272/vzwletter.gif

Yeah, i remember seeing that about a month ago, seems like Verizon didn't handle the update the way they anticipated.  PCW did good picking that link up and posting it here.

However, All other communications, ads, marketing campaigns plainly and clearly state flash will be available summer 2010 w/ android 2.2.  Nor did any of the marketing that I personally saw released give a specific date or that it would be first in the Droid line with those features.  I also think that document may not have been released to the public but could be corporate communications and FABs for the reps and stores.

Your scenario is pretty realistic (I am a software person).  Actual release dates are hard to pin down for the very reasons you stated - limited resources, bugs that keep cropping up, etc.  While I'm also anxious for the latest release, we just have to sit tight and wait.  Someone asked on a CNET board if this is a breach of contract, allowing you to get out.  Nope, they don't have any obligation beyond giving us functional phones.

I concur with the general outlook that patience is a virtue and we will be rewarded greatly for this. That being said, here's my beef with Motorola - not Verizon:

My Droid X has been replaced twice and yet the same issues have been duplicating. My WiFi connection is very unreliable (even in performance mode) and drops off every so often. My phone powercycles at least once a week (Motorola Devour, anyone?) and the lack of 2.2 is just a kick in the shin. Now, I can go and utilize the recently released ROM and {edit for TOS violation}. Heck, my friends who had the exact same issues have stated it's all gone {edit for TOS violation}. But it strikes me the wrong way that if I {edit for TOS violation} to fix the aforementioned problems, I also void my warranty. That is just not right at all.

So guess what MOTOROLA? I should've left you and never looked back after the RAZR. I activated my HTC Incredible back up and am selling my Droid X. I don't need these problems for the money I paid.

Verizon service, on the other hand, has always and remains to be good to me.

P.S. - I agree with the majority of the comments that people should be properly informed before any buying decision. But unless you're an official representative from VZW or Motorola, I don't appreciate the rude or pretentious comments. We're all paying customers and some have to be told more than the others. Deal with it.

Bottom line folks is that do you want software that is right, or fast. Microsoft has missed more deadlines than anyone else in history. but they know the value of getting it right, than getting it out on time. Not everyone thinks that Microsoft does it right, but they get it right more than they get it wrong.

I have read a most of the complaints in this thread and other threads, and this is what I see. A lot of you are manufacturing false dates from rumors that were out there. Officially, Verizon said late summer. Fall starts on the 23rd of this month.  IF they do not get by then, then it will be late...... and I would rather have a good OS late, than a buggy OS that is on time. HTC hurried their release of Froyo, and there were bugs in it that a lot of people became dissatisfied with them. I would rather we get a good build, relatively bug free. That would make me happy. If it happens this month, great. If it happens next month, great..... it will happen, just have a little patience.

So the original Droid got the update first. Who cares? The Original Droid was out long before the X was out, and it had a vanilla front end. Takes less time to test. The Droid 2 was released with Froyo. No problem. Froyo was out when the Droid 2 was in the design and testing phase, so it was able to be released with it. X will get Froyo. Sooner or later. I understand that we all would like to have it now, but if you actually knew what goes into testing a new build, testing with an existing front end and making sure that all the bugs were worked out, you would have a little more understanding on how long it takes, what it takes, and the pressures that people are under. I test software for a living. I know all about delivery dates. I also know that there is a lot of pressure to deliver a bug free product and yes, testers cannot find all the bugs. We test for conventional usage, and we also think outside the box to try to see what people might come up with to see if we can find bugs. We can't catch them all, but it is nice to catch most of them.

Some have said that Verizon reps have lied to them about Froyo. But when someone says 'soon' its open to interpretation. Its a part of a salespersons persona. But if you paid attention to the release of the Droid X, you would have known that the target for  the update was Late Summer. IF you thought that it would be released earlier based on 'soon', well your interpretation is what let you down, not the salespeople. Yes I did see the link to the post where Verizon said that the X would be the first phone with flash 10.1. OOPS, I guess they thought the update might be out sooner, but hey, to me, no big deal. Personally, I am not sure if I will install flash or not on my X. I have seen reports that flash is slow and causing some phones to choke and/or crash. Adobe just released revised minimum equipment requirements. They raised the processor speed from 500mhz to 800mhz. Yes, that doesn't affect the X, but that tells me that flash takes more resources than they originally thought, and it will be slower than originally thought. Doesn't sound good for Adobe there. I know that Flash does leak memory on my laptop and I have to restart it more often when I watch a lot of flash stuff. Not sure how it will do on the X with Froyo, but that remains to be seen.

Patience people........ you will have a much happier life if you exercise patience a little more.

I lol'd at that one. Windows "V" word and the launch of the crapbox 360 were perfect examples of what can happen when you rush things. I say take your time and get it right.... As long as you follow through with your summer date. Break that and you are dead to me moto/verizon.

I can't beleive that Verizon edited this post for the word that he used there.... yes I did read it before it was edited.
