The ferocious winds of Hurricane Laura not only knocked out power in the Lake Charles, LA, area, they also knocked out fiber connections. That fiber is what carries calls and internet connections from cell site to cell site and back to our switches.

Jeremy caught up with Jeff Plowman, Network Assurance Director, who explained that engineers have deployed satellite connections to provide temporary connection to cell sites as well as to support local first responders in the area.

This weekend our teams will support the efforts of Operation BBQ Relief in Lake Charles, where residents can get a meal, charge their devices and connect to the internet.

Yesterday, the Verizon Foundation announced a $1 million donation to support immediate relief efforts across communities in Louisiana and Texas impacted by the hurricane.

For our consumer and small business customers, unlimited calling, texting and data has been expanded in eight additional parishes in Louisiana beginning Friday, August 28, through September 1. For full details and to see how you can verify eligibility, go here.

Please also consider donating to the VtoV employee relief fund to assist V Teamers impacted by this storm and other natural disasters.
