Phone often erases texts automatically - setting? bug? how to retrieve messages?

My Verizon Blackberry Pearl 8130 will often erase all of my text messages for no reason.  Then, the phone will often not allow new messages to be read (the message will arrive and disappear).  Is there a setting I can change or could this be a bug.  My phone has had this issue for 1-1.5 year.  If I pop out the battery, the situation resolves itself.

This phone is set to Keep Messages – 2 Month under General Options, but it will erase messages multiple times within a day or week.  The phone is setup on Blackberry Exchange and occasionally e-mails will disappear too.  Text message will disappear often!  The emails and text messages are in separate folders.

Is there a new setting I can try?  Is this a bug?  Can I get access to these messages (that often times, I never get a chance to read)?

Thank you.

This is not a bug. You can set it to keep your messages for 2 months. However if your bb memory is getting low the blackberry will start erasing text and your call logs to save memory. One of the things you can do is to make sure you ahve a memory card and store as much as you can on the card.  If the phone is not erasing your missed called and received call list you could have a bigger issue. It never hurts to backup and format the phone and restore. Then test. I woudl also remove all text

For once, I actually have to agree with Grim. It's most likely a memory leak that's causing your issue. The Pearl 8130 was a phone that had majory memory leak problems. A memory card may help, but in the long wrong it's probably best if you just get a different model Blackberry.

Thank you both for your responses.  It seems that memory may be the culprit here.  I do have an additional SD card to hold photos, but may have phone stock images I can remove.  To clarify, when the phone has ‘an episode’, all text messages are deleted, the phone log is cleared, and all but approximately 10 e-mails are deleted.  My phone receives work emails (Outlook Exchange information), some calls, and is used for light text messaging and browsing.  The small size of the Pearl was my main choice for this BlackBerry.  The two year contract will expire in approximately 6 months, so I may reconsider phone type.  Surely, technology has changed/improved within the past 1.5 years.

Thanks again,

Ashley
