icons i can't get to disappear on my curve

i just got this blackberry curve 9330 and even when my email inbox is empty i still have a little icon on my screen that says i have 3 unread messages..any way to clear this or get rid of it?? thanks!

Thank you for your reply SydneyK. You can also search your phone for all messages, by opening your message box, then select Menu and Search. Then leave the search field empty and click Menu and Search again.

 

Once it locates all the messages, you want to make sure you are at the top of the page and select Menu then choose Mark all as read.

These could be other messages besides email. Regardless, a battery pull should reset this.
