new crappy, um I mean "basic" phones

Like many I refuse to be painted into the smartphone corner !

Now that my son has a phone and mainly uses texting to communicate I'd like to upgrade my phone to something with a keyboard. However, I still want a phone with good voice quality. Almost got the LG Octane but after reading reviews I stopped in time before making what I feel would be a big mistake. IMHO nothing else curently available looks any better.

I guess my rant is why oh why can't Verizion make a good basic phone available to us customers. Other carryiers appear to have some nice basic phones. I'd switch but my family plan is thru my wife's company. Not sure the discount is worth the crappy phones they have shown in their web site. What ever happened to the LG Cresendo?

I just want a good phone to talk and text.

End of rant .........

We have 3 LG Octanes. Two of them send thousands of texts a month, I've not heard any of them complain. Also have two Samsung SCH-U370's(formerly the Reality) they like those as well with no complaints. You can get them in store at Target or some Walmarts.

I have a Pantech Jest, and It's an awesome phone!! :-)!  I've texted my phone to the max, and it's still holding up.  And, I've made tons of calls ect...  It's a great little phone!  (Now, if you read the reviews about the original Pantech jest...there not so great...but I've not really had any troubles with my phone. I had to update the software, and that fixed all my problems)

I agree it would be nice to see some more new basic phones :-)!! Like a blitz 2 or some more qwerty keyboard phones that have a decent camera and can do video messaging too! Smiley Happy!!! That would make my day!

A Verizon rep finally helped me shut off Daily Scoop from my LG Revere.

I called Verizon tech support. She emailed Daily Scoop to tell them to stop sending "scoops" to my phone. The tech said that she will receive a confirmation in 2 days. Once she receives the confirmation, she will put a "block" on my phone so that Daily Scoop can no longer contact me. But she is doing this for the first time (and after several trips to the supervisor for advice) and is not positive that it will work.

She said the problem is that the app is pre-installed. It doesn't seem to want to be turned off.

Update: The Verizon tech received the confirmation from Daily Scoop. The tech has now put a "block" on my account to stop Daily Scoop. In 48 hours the existing Daily Scoop messages on my phone are supposed to disappear.

2nd Update: Success.  I am no longer receiving Daily Scoop offers on my phone. 2 of the 3 previous entries in my Daily Scoop (Media Center>Browse and Download>Daily Scoop) remained in the phone for 3 days (after the 48 hour waiting period was up).  They constantly scrolled "You are almost done. Get Daily Scoop".  On the 4th day, they disappeared.

My Revere is working well as a cell phone.
