Call quality is good, camera and video works with a 3.2 megapixel lens.

The camera lens is right where my fingers usually go while I'm holding the phone typing on the keyboard. When I finally took some pictures outdoors, initially I was disappointed. But after reading a reminder about the camera lens and after cleaning it with a microfiber cloth, the pictures now look MUCH better. Cleaning it made a big improvement in the quality of the recorded video, too.

The manual doesn't point out something that I think is kinda cool. Most of the u370's camera resolutions are the standard resolutions that the other Verizon phones have, and when you are viewing pictures on your phone in those resolutions, you'll see white bars on the left and right sides of the pictures.

But two of the resolutions 1920x1080 and 1280x 720 have an aspect ratio of 1.78:1, and pictures in either of those dimensions will fill up basically the entire screen on your phone when you're holding the phone horizontally.

On the other hand, a small disappoint is the panorama and multi shot features because the phone forces the camera to use a low resolution for either of those modes. I don't know if other non-smartphones use a higher resolution for either of those features.

has anyone tried to use the nyc subway map in pdf format with the reality in FILEVIEWER?

http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/subwaymap.pdf

i can see the zoomed out map but i can't zoom in.

I found this on another forum:

Press the magnifying glass once to activate zoom mode; there are two ways to zoom in/out

- press the volume +/- keys repeatedly or press and hold the volume +/- keys

- press and hold your fingertip on the screen until up/down arrows appear on the screen. Once they appear, maintain consistent pressure on the screen to keep the arrows on the screen so you can continue to zoom in/out with your fingertip. Slowly moving your fingertip up/down will zoom in/out.

In a multi-page document, there seem to be two separate ways to switch to a different page. While you are NOT in zoom mode (i.e., prior to pressing the magnifying glass), make a horizontal swipe. While you ARE in zoom mode, depending on how zoomed in/out you are, either make a vertical swipe or make multiple vertical swipes until you are on a different page.

I have just gotten my samsung reality for .95 cents at Walmart 7 days ago (8-11-11).  what I found out buy calling verizon and some on line reserch was that verizon does not sell the Reality or the sch u370 but only outside venders.  Best buy calls it the sch u370 and ask $29.95 and WalMart calls it the Reality.  I have found no difference in eather phone and I DID NOT have to buy a data package at all with my Reality, not even a $10 package.   After purchasing it and removing it from the box, which says Reality all over it, the phone part # is SCH U370 on the ID plate on the phone.  I have come to the conclusion that different venders just call it by different names so you thin you are getting something unique.  So far I love the phone.  It is easy to use and the touch screen seems to respond quickly and has many features for not being a smart phone.

Relative newbie here. I need to upgrade to a feature phone with no data plan. Couldn't warm up to the Octane, despite decent reviews, so I will have to check out this Samsung U370. My question is if I purchase this through a 3rd party vendor like Costco or Best Buy, do they waive the activation fee like a Verizon store would? I've only purchased phones through Verizon, so please excuse me if this is an obvious question.

I might as well ask this as well: Now that it's September, getting into the fall and holiday season, is it better to wait and see the new feature phones that will be introduced for the Christmas market? I've read about a Cosmos Touch 2 in October. Is the general pattern that many more options are usually released around wintertime? My only requirements are a physical Qwerty, decent picture taking, works well as an actual phone, good battery life, reliable. Do not necessarily need touch screens, gaming, apps, music and other bells and whistles as long as the basics are covered. Oh, and I want whatever phone to be free or pretty dirt cheap. I just don't want to spend a lot on a phone when my needs are so simple.

What rumors are out there about phones to be released?

(a) When we purchased a u370 from Costco as current Verizon customers, there was no activation fee. I don't know what the Costco policy is for new Verizon customers.

(b) This (below) seems to be the only information reported so far on upcoming phones; prior to when Android phones came on the market, you could count on regular releases of quality feature-rich non-smartphones.

http://www.vzbuzz.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/verizonroadmap.jpg

  - Casio C781 (09/29/2011)

  - LG Cresendo (10/13/2011) (replaces the Cosmos Touch)

  - Pantech Jest 2 (09/01/2011)

  - verizon adamant repaces the salute [ZTE made the salute]

(c) Please be careful about the degree to which you let the price steer your deision. There are regularly numerous posts on this forum from people who bought the cheapest price phone and then found out that that phone was so cheap perhaps because of certain important features that were omitted.

In my opinion, neither the Verizon brand name, the phone manufacturer brand name, nor the price are in any way a guarantee of or a predictor about the quality and reliability of a particular phone. Therefore, check out phonearena.com, phonescoop.com, cnet.com and verizonwireless.com for customer reviews.

You mentioned that taking pictures is of some importance to you as far as what phone features are important to you. Check out the professional reviews at phonearena.com to view pictures taken with that phone by one of that website's phone critics so that you can compare the picture quality. Also, if picture taking is important enough to you, then it might be worth considering a phone with a large screen such as the u370 because, in my opinion, that large screen is wonderful for use either to view captured photos or as a viewfinder for photos that you're about to take.

I went from a Samsung Glyde to a Samsung Rogue, which I love accept for being required to have a data plan that I have no use for (I hate Verizon....).

I currently have a brand new Samsung U370 sitting in front of me, waiting to set-up.

My only major complaint about the Samsung U370 is the lack of a "flash" for the camera...  I'll also miss the zoom and a few other goodies that are on the Rogue, but I'll live.

Orded a Body Glove for it off Ebay and it fits nicely in my daughters old LG Dare cradle for charging om my desk.

I had the Rogue too before the u370 and wish I could have just kept my Rogue but that $10/mo data plan x2 phones was a waste of money for us. I agree that the Rogue is a nicer phone than the u370, but at least no required data plan w/ the u370.
