Has verizon made an official announcement on this?  So you mean there will be no more basic phones on verizon?  What about people that are month to month with basic phones and want to just replace their basic phone with a used one and don't care about re-signing their contract?  Mary

I have seen no official Verizon comment on this, nor have I even heard rumors about it.  I have heard rumors about new basic phones that may be introduced later this year, so at least basic phones will still be available for the near future.  I can't imagine basic phones going totally away just yet, but maybe Verizon has plans to move basic phones to month-to-month rather than contract?  Who knows ... I'll be on the lookout for something official from Verizon since I have basic phones on my plan with no intention whatsoever of upgrading them to smartphones, unless the network no longer supports them.

Yes,it is my understanding that basic phones will still be available for month-to-month prepay.Verizon is decommissioning some older phones,so that if you have an older phone, you may not be able to reactivate it. Most should be OK if it has E911,but check with them to be sure. And again if you have a Samsung Gusto or Gusto2,you won't be able to access the Web after August 30th. You will still be able to access My Verizon from your phone, but if you use the search engine, you may not be able to open any Web pages. If you can, they may not be able to be viewed properly. I'm not paying for a Web browser that I can't use just to get unlimi9ted talk and text.

Verizon has been very hush-hush on this issue.

I am thinking of purchasing an LG EnV for my $50 Unlimited Talk, Text, & web plan.  Will I be able to download Opera Mini after 8/30/13?

Also, is Opera Mini available for the LG EnV Touch?

Thanks,

Swand1ve

swand1ve, we're excited to hear that you're getting an LG EnV. That's a phenomenal device! However, I apologize that the the Opera Mini application is for Smartphones only. Perhaps, it's time for you to upgrade to Smartphone based on your needs and wants, http://vz.to/U9U0Fl

I just bought the LG Cosmos 3 last week and switched to Verizon. I saw the message that you mentioned when I tried to access the internet on my phone and I'm rather unhappy about it. It would be nice if Verizon adjusted the rate plan in light of this news... perhaps increased the allotment of minutes to compensate.

I installed the Opera Mini they said I should on my Pantech Crux. It's garbage. It only gives you portrait mode and uses its own keyboard (impossible for grown men to use because it's too tiny for the fingers most of us have). Even worse, you can no longer open links returned from Bing searches. Plain and simple, they want to make the basic/feature phone experience so horrendous for anyone who tries to use data features with it that we'll upgrade to a smartphone (that will easily boost our bills by a minimum of $40-$50 a month). I've been a customer since the mid-1990s. VZW used to be awesome but they've sunk to being just like AT&T with a different logo.

just bought the LG Exalt the day it came out which was 1 1/2 weeks ago.  From the beginning I haven't been able to access the Mobile Web.  When you go to the store, they act as if you are crazy even though they go through the machinations of tech support.  Then I found out that it is a known issue with the phone. They offered to allow me go get another basic device but reading through the posts I have concerns that any of the "older type" phones will offer the features that they advertise they have...  I just would like to catch up on the news and get the weather occasionally.  By the way, the phone and most basic phones the now carry have Opera Mini installed but for what???  I could have had my choice of carriers but went with Verizon based on recommendations from folks who have smartphones.  I agree with you that Verizon should sort out their rate plan for we "dumb phone" users!

We haven't forgotten about our awesome basic phone users, AldRC. Web service is still very much available for basic phones through our Mobile Web http://vz.to/18Toopu service. Some phones and sites even support an optimized experience http://vz.to/17SrDPF to view sites on your basic phone. What happens when you're trying to access the Opera Mini Brower on your Exalt? Is there a certain zipcode you're having the trouble in? Can you send and receive picture messages? Please share details so we can help make sure you get a great experience on your basic phone.

Thank you
