LG enV Touch Issues = Complete Frustration (Please Help Me!)

I first got my enV Touch back in May 2010, boy was that a mistake. It was a great phone for about 3 months and then it started having all the problems that you can find out about when you type in LG enV touch in google. Screen going freaky colors, the touch features not working, the phone shutting off randomly or when I load up the web browser, reseting all of my settings and erasing my contacts, keys getting stuck, horrible battery life, charging issues, lagging on a lot of things, drops calls even when I have really good signal, randomly calling people when it is not in my pocket and when it is in my pocket. In December I got the phone replaced, it worked for about a month and a half. Then it started having all of the problems again. I tried calling customer support a couple times, I wasted 12 hours of my precious time waiting for representative to pick up and help me out without making me keep the same dang phone. There are so many problems with this phone and it has created another priority in my life that shouldn't be there. I rely on my phone to work for me, is that too much to ask for. I'm eligible for an upgrade on January 4th 2012! That is too long for me.

Your only options are to either get another replacement, swap upgrades, purchase a new one at full price, buy one on ebay or craigslist, or activate an old phone on your line until your upgrade is up.

I share your frustration, RS.  I've had the enV Touch about 18 months, and I think I've experienced most of the software issues that are so widely publicized.   I'd suggest, if you have issues that are clearly hardware, like stuck keys, that you take another chance on a replacement phone.  There's not much to lose in that respect.   If you're not already on V11 as your firmware version, visit a Verizon store and have it upgraded.  My issues with loss of settings were solved with the upgrade.   If you use Mobile Email and haven't switched to "Mobile Email Latest Version", you might try it.  I found that the reboots when entering the web browser stopped when I offloaded the old Mobile Email.   As to charging, I've experienced fewer problems (lockups, overcharging) when charging from the USB port vs. the wall plug.   Hope these suggestions help a little.

THEY PAY FOR IT, NOT ME. give me a new phone.

I can't believe how much time I have spent trying to move my pics/videos from my EnV Touch to my pc.  I saved all of my pics/videos to my microSD...no problem.  When I open the files on my pc, some of them are jpegs (which is fine) but then there are a whole slew of "tn" files.  What are "tn" files? Does anyone know if they are images?....possibly corrupted?...or can they be converted?  Ugggh.

Hi Titanicpotatoes,

Is your device still within the 12-month warranty? I ask because the EnV touch is no longer manufactured. If you are still within the warranty, a replacement can be sent at no cost to you. Because the device is no longer manufactured, a new EnV Touch cannot be sent.

If the phone is outside the warranty time frame and you have equipment insurance, you are able to file a claim for it. You can contact Asurion, the equipment insurance company, at http://www.phoneclaim.com/verizon or contact them by phone at 888-881-2622.

I would recommend removing the back of the phone to ensure that the contacts for the battery are tightly in place. It seems as if they are loose, which can cause the phone to power itself off.

You can check your upgrade eligibility date by calling #UPG (#874) and SEND from the phone. You will receive a free message with the information as to when your line is eligible to upgrade to a new phone.

I hope this information is helpful. Have a good day!

I google searched "env touch tn files" and found two interesting discussions. In one of them, someone offered a possible solution which I copied and pasted below.

"How do I open .TN file? It's pictures from cell..."
  http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=121517411

"TN file extension"
  http://dotwhat.net/tn/7390/

"I have had the same problem and totally freaked out thinking I lost all of my pictures!! Here is how I was able to save them!! I first downloaded all of the tn files off my phone onto my computer, then I downloaded the program Irfanview from download.com, then I went to the tn file, right clicked, go to properties, opens with, changed it to irfan view, then click apply. Then doubleclick on the tn file, irfan view will open up with a message that says the file has been saved as an invalid tn file format would you like to convert this file to jpeg, click yes and the picture will open and resave as a jpeg image. I have only been able to open the saved pics with irfan view but as long as I have them I dont care how I have to open them!!! Good luck and hope this works for you too"

I will start by saying that the enV Touch is the worst phone I have ever owned.  In my opinion it is no wonder (and a blessing) LG has stopped making it.

I have had an account with Verizon since 2003 and of course, I've had Asurion insurance for that same amount of time. Back in 2009 I changed my Blackberry to an enV Touch because my needs had changed and this phone features were suitable.  What a mistake it was to get this new phone.  As I said before, in my opinion is of very poor quality.

The reason I say this is because after owning it for a few months, I noticed that in the area where my cheek touches the screen, there seemed to be some kind of moisture spot, just on the edge of the screen.  I don't use my cell phone to often.  It is usually in my purse or on my desk at home.  I don't sweat a lot so the only explanation I can come up with is that the it is the oil from my face was causing this problem.  To me , this is an indication that the screen was not properly sealed.  Shortly after I had owned this phone the screen stopped working.  I put in a claim with Asurion and had it replaced.   Unfortunately, two weeks later, in a totally freak accident this new phone slipped out of my jacket pocket and went straight into the toilet. Naturally I had to have that one replaced as well.

Because I made two claims within a one year period Asurion dropped me like a hot potato cancelling my insurance.  I understand that they have their policies but find this this to be and unfair policy.  At the time I had been their customer for  six years without ever having had a single claim.  But Asurion is another matter.

What I am getting to here, at is that I filed the second claim (for the third device) on February 2, 2011.  Late last month (only 10 months of owing this phone, once again the touch screen stopped working. Again, with no reasonable explanation AND it has the same exact "moisture" issue as  the first one, in the same exact spot.

Tonight I called Asurion because to me, it is clearly a problem with the quality of the phone.  Of course, to them it is "damage that I have caused" and they offered to put in a new claim but of course,  I would have to pay the deductible once again.  I find this absolutely preposterous.  They are going to tell me that by using the phone in the manner in which it's supposed to be used I have damaged.   After realizing I was not going to get anywhere with the person that was assisting me,  I asked to speak to a supervisor.  This person was even worse.  She argued that "I had caused". Her reasoning being that when they sent the phone to me, there was no moisture and therefore moisture getting in there was my fault and this voided the warranty.  Is it just me or is this a completely absurd statement?  I got tired of arguing with her and requested to speak to her supervisor.  She stated that she would be happy to transfer me but that her supervisor but that this person would tell me the exactly the same thing she had just told me.  Fortunately that was not the case.  After explaining the situation to this gentleman, he agreed to send me a new phone at no charge.  He did say that what I had described to him was very strange and that he had never heard of this problem before.  Basing it on the fact that the same thing happened with two different devices makes it hard to believe that this has not happened to many others as well.

If in fact, LG considers that damage caused by the poor quality of their product is not an issue with the device and therefore it's not a warranty issue I have to repeat that the warranty is useless and LG is not the company I though it was.  I do have to wonder though, if it's LG's claim or Asurion's claim so they can collect their deductible...hummmm =\

You're eligible for an upgrade to a new discounted price phone if you're willing to sign a new 2 year contract.

I am  perfectly aware that I can buy a new phone however I am not sure I want to get into another 2 year contract.  Besides, that totally misses my point.

1) It seems to me that Verizon should sell good quality products. I feel that a phone should at least work properly for the 2-year term of the contract if not longer.

2) LG should make better products than the enV Touch and their warranty should cover malfunctions due to poor quality.

3) Asurion a) should value their customer and take into consideration previous claims history before dropping them. b) shouldn't try to get away with not covering what is obviously a problem with the equipment. If this had happened to me once, I'd be willing to consider the possibility that I somehow cause the problem (which is what I did with the first claim) but when it happens to two different devices in EXACTLY the same manner, I refuse to accept that "I caused the damage" when I seldom use the phone.

Furthermore, in my previous post I didn't even get into the issue of having to replace the battery which does not even last a year. Or how awful the charge time is on this phone.

I do appreciate you taking the time to reply to my post though.
