Words of a "helpful" Verizon Rep:
"I would be happy to answer your question." >>>>>>> Translation: I would be happy to sound like an automated robot and give very obvious information that you most likely already know.
"The Octane is no longer available for purchase." >>>>>>> Translation: We decided to get rid of the last good basic phone and leave you with a horrific pile of garbage to choose from. Does a smartphone sound appealing yet? *nudge nudge*
"Are you looking to upgrade to a basic phone? I can gladly provide you with some recommendations." >>>>>>> Translation: Are you looking to downgrade to a basic phone? I can gladly provide you with a list of phones that are inferior to the one you currently have.
"Thanks you for your involvement in our community forums" >>>>>>> Translation: Buy a smartphone already!

I just discovered that RadioShack is selling the Env3 online for $4.99. It looks like it is a brand new phone. It doesn't say anything about the phone being refurbished. Weird! My only concern is that some of the reviews I have read complain about the phone turning itself off because the battery doesn't fit right but for $4.99 if may be worth a try. I wonder where they got these phones from. I'll keep this option in mind.

The phone shutting off is only a problem if you are rough with your phone and slamming it around really, or closing it too hard.

I had problems with my Env3 shutting off when I first got it. I think it was probably related to some dust and junk getting between the battery and the phone. Took the battery out and cleaned the area... It's worked fine ever since.

Could you please post a link? I'd be interested in buying it, but I can't find it on their site.

I didn't think you could still get the 3 new as it's discontinued. I was in radio shack a few weeks ago and happen to look at the verizon phones and that was not one of them.
. I ended up finding 2 in like new condition from someone for $10 each. Mary

I just happened to check RadioShack online and was surprised to see them listed there. I can't figure out where they got them from. I know that I had checked a few days ago and they weren't listed. It doesn't say that they're refurbished and I would think that they would have say if they were. I didn't think you could get them new either. May need to verify with RadioShack that these are indeed new phones.

Must be online only as I know for a fact they were not on display in the store a few weeks ago when I was looking. I think even on the verizon site the refurbished ones are not listed anymore but rather than use my husbands upgrade on a free refurbished one I found it used cheap anyway.
There was a big long thread on the old boards about shut down issues. Many people had the shut down issue and it was due to the battery not fitting right or something and at one point someone said verizon had corrected it and would exchange them for one with a corrected battery.
The used one hubby is using from someone does not have any shut down issues and the other used one I got is not activated on a line but I left it on one day after getting it to test it and no shut down issues. When I was trying to get a used one from ebay there were a few sellers that had brand new ones in boxes but they wanted way too much money for them and they were bulk cell phone sellers so I was leary and even the used ones were from bulk sellers with just a stock photo and I could not find one single ENV3 on ebay from a private seller but luckily when I complained to a friend online she said she had 2 sitting in a drawer she didn't want or need that were hardly used so I lucked out. I had also tried craigs list and got one hit and contacted the guy and he wanted like $80 for a used one and brand new on ebay in box it was $80 so I told him forget it as I couldn't afford to spend more than $30. He must have thought his used one was made of solid gold. Mary
