I'd like to weigh in on keeping it in a pocket or purse unprotected causing this problem, I've had my Env3 for almost a year and a half, and have always had problems with it turning itself off. I've watched it on more than one occasion turn itself off while it had not been in my hand, pocket, purse, ect... it had been sitting on my desk with nothing to bother it. I'm thinking if they want to recall it that that would be a good idea, especially since at lease 5 of my friends who have the Env3 have all complained of the same problem, thats most of the people I know who have the Env3.

We bought two LG env3 phones in December, one for myself and one for my daughter.  They both shut off randomly.  At first I thought that the button was accidentally getting hit in my pocket or in my purse.  I've had a week go by without it shutting off then it will 5 times in a day.  I've had it in my hand and witnessed it shutting down.  It does seem like it is worse if I have it on silence.  I have found that if I hit the end button on the inside keypad rather than allowing it to automatically lock itself does seem to reduce the chances it will shut down but doesn't prevent it completely.  I am on call for work a lot and this creates a major stressor for me.  I am constantly looking at the phone to make sure it is still on.  It is time that LG has a recall of these phones.

I've heard a few reports that LG has FINALLY acknowledged the problem is actually with the battery and that they have re-released the phone (a adjusted model) which fixes the problem.

I've heard a couple people say that they went in to the Verizon Store, and that they were given a replacement phone (the new model).

Has anyone tried this?  I haven't had the shutdown problem, but I'm tempted to go in and get a replacement anyway, since I have the older model.

If anyone has tried this, let us know if there are any loopholes, or if they just give you the new phone.

I went into the store a couple days ago and they are sending me a replacement but its just a "like-new" phone. They told me what they did was make new batteries and fixed the phones to where they wouldn't act up and are sending those out now. Hopefully this will be a good fix. I'll definitely post once I get the "like-new" phone.

Mine shut off like yours so I complained twice.  The first time they did the software upgrade and that didn't work.  the second time they gave me a refurb'd phone as a replacement.  That one worked fine for a little while but now it is doing the same thing.  My contract is up this coming month, I'm wondering what they are going to do about it then.

If you have an upgrade coming can get a new phone or find a different provider.    Mary

Yes, the LG ENV3 has a serious design flaw and needs to be recalled.  I'm on my 3rd one now in less than a year and it has started shutting down just like the other two before it.  My phone is just an off the shelf version with no extra memory, I don't download apps, text, web surf, or do anything other than just talk on it.  I keep the phone in my pocket, but I have witnessed it shutdown when it was just sitting on a table (nothing interacted with it).  To Verizon's credit they have been very good about replacing it (twice), but I'm sure they won't continue to do so--even if I wanted to keep this unreliable phone.  I hope Verizon will let me swap it for something that actually works for longer than a few months.

It's not quite 6 months since I got my phone and it's still perfect.  I still have to wonder how I got such a perfect working phone when all these other ones have the shut down issue.  Mary

To be perfectly honest my wife and I both bought the ENV3 at the same time and she hasn't had any problems with hers either--although we had her software updated when I had my first return.  I'm pretty confident that the problem lies in the battery connection as many have stated.  However, LG needs to make a phone that can be carried in a pocket without it eventually wearing the battery connections loose.  Maybe some people are willing to wedge a piece of paper or whatever in the back to keep the battery fitting tight, but I'm old school.  I think if a manufacturer produces a product that clearly has a problem, they should fix it and not rely on their customers jerry-rigging it to keep it functioning.  I know, it's a crazy concept.  :smileywink:

I haven't had any shut off issues since I put the piece of paper in the battery compartment. My only problem now is trying to get the new Hallmark app on the phone.
