I want to ensure you’re able to transfer your contacts to your new device.
Prior to the screen issue on your LG VX5500, had you previously downloaded and ran the Backup Assistant application on your device http://vz.to/1Jhdw6G? If so, you will only need to install the same Backup Assistant application to your new device, which will allow you to restore your contacts to the new device from a previous backup http://vz.to/1QRlhXl.
