Thank you all for your replies. There is a known issue with receiving a message in the Media Center. This is due to Daily Scoop. There was a post on how to resolve this issue previously, but I will post it here as well.
Daily Scoop can suspend the application remotely by following the instructions listed below:
-Remove any data blocks
-Go into the Daily Scoop application and press next. It will download content.
-E-mail us at vzdailyscoopsupport@mobileposse.com to let us know it is on and you have downloaded content, and we will suspend it.
-Once it is suspended, then you can turn the data feature off (the next day), and you will not receive alerts anymore.
Thank you,

I don't get it.. it will take less time to stop it than to post this
I don't get it...a bunch of hoops is 3 steps?
I don't get it...sounds like it is your problem since you own the phone

so fix your backup assistant sync settings..killing your battery for a 20 seconds process is a stretch

Backup Assistant isn't the problem. It's the constant alerts that app updates are available; Daily Scoop is only one of them. The alerts go off several times day and night and it is (so far) impossible to stop them. It should be possible to kill them completely, but it isn't, despite everything that's been posted here.
And yes, I can vouch that they do run down the battery.

Hi mjg9129,
Service blocks are added online at vzw.com by logging into My Verizon. Once logged in:
- Click on Change Features under the Plan heading near the bottom of the page
- If there are multiple lines on your account, choose the line to which you wish to make these changes
- Click Next
- Click on Service Blocks near the bottom of the page
- Choose the blocks you wish to add and click Continue
Thanks for your post!

I have the exact same problem with the exact same phone. I wake up every morning to a message, and sometimes have one of Verizon's spam messages go off in the middle of the night. It is so frustrating. I think it is ridiculous that Verizon feels they can do this to their customers and not give them any option on how to stop it. Makes me want to switch plans...
