I currently have a Samsung Rogue with unlimited data. I am up for an upgrade and was wondering if i could keep unlimited data with a smartphone? I don't like any of their basic phones, and don't want to pay more to get less on one of the tiered data plans.

Which smartphone do you intend to add? In any case, the $19.99 will not work with a smartphone, as that is the Connect plan fee, $9.99 for the line, $10 for data/connect. What's likely to happen is the other lines will keep the $10 data add on for basic phones and get 75 MB, and the smartphone line will get $30 / 2 GB data plan. Your bottom line will increase by $20.If it's a BlackBerry, you'll be fine with 2 GB. My daughter uses 1 GB or less on her iPhone.

Actually the line I want to upgrade to a smartphone is a $19.99/line. Currently, I am not using much data, under 75 MB. I would assume my usage would increase with a smartphone, as I had planned to sync with my work email, etc.

I am in the same boat as you. I too have a Samsung Rogue, when I purchased the phone, it was considered a smartphone, now it is a feature phone. I wasn't eligible for an upgrade in July when the new tiered plans were introduced, and never envisioned that the upgrade to a SM would be an ordeal when I became eligible for an upgrade. Now, I am ready to upgrade, I went to my local Verizon store, where they reviewed my plan. The rep was said that because of my current unlimited plan is $19.99, it would only be an additional $10/month to go to the 2G tiered plan. She also said that if I call customer service, they may let me upgrade early, I am within 20 days of my upgrade. So, I called customer service. They said that my plan is no longer offered, and that the unlimited part of the plan is included, so if I were to upgrade, I would be charged the full rate, no matter which tiered data plan I selected. This is bad news. I can't "unbundle" my old unlimited data plan and upgrade to a smartphone with a tiered data plan, In my mind I would be paying for two types of data plan. I have the Nationwide Connect Share 1400 with 4 lines.The difference between what the local VW rep tells me and what the customer service rep tells me is unacceptable.

According to the Verizon Data Calculator I would be at about four and a half Gigs. Even if I wouldn't use more than 2 Gigs I still don't want to have to worry about having a limit.

How much data do you think you are going to use? Some users with the unlimited data plan actually use less than 2 GB per month.

So bottom line if I want to upgrade, I have to pay more to get less.

I was thinking about an iPhone, just because I can sync my music. But I would consider a Droid because I really don't listen to my iPod much.
