The issue is not stopping the retirement discount, it is doing it in the

Once again that is on the EMPLOYER not Verizon. A discount is not tied to the contract. If a employer/Verizon discount agreement ends on Dec 31 then on Jan 1st no one gets the discount no matter how much time they have on their contract. that's just common sense.

Legally you are correct, but you don't get customer loyalty that way!

Loyalty goes both ways bud.

Your employer dropped your discount so you blame it on Verizon and are going to switch, how's that loyalty?

So Verizon should give your something you're not entitled to or you'll leave? Take step back from situation and look at it unbiasedly and you'll see why you're wrong. Once again blame your former employer. THEY are the one responsible for you losing the discount. If anyone needs to re-imburse you it's them. Verizon has done nothing wrong legally or morally. And honestly if the people that constantly complain about Verizon's business practices actually want business they would be out of business in 6 months or less.

Not to mention switching will not get his discount back AND any of the other 3 major carriers would have done the EXACT same thing.

What I was looking for was a way to back step to where I was before I

upgraded and did not expect the added expense.

Vontage is a good example of a company who helped me out when I was

unemployed for 6 months - they gave me a rate that I could afford at the

time and now I am on the regular rate. The lesson I learned is not to extend

myself financially with a contract.

What does having a contract or not having a contract have to do with a retiree discount?

Very simple - I would not have upgraded to multiple smart phones for my

family and continued using the phones we had. Instead I am locked into a two

year smart phone on 3 phones and fortunately the fourth phone is not a smart

phone.

I know it isn't the best solution, but if the data is too expensive you could activate basic phones on those lines. The contract (and therefore the ETF)went with the smartphones but you can activate your old phones and sell the smartphones online. I wouldn't use the trade in program with Verizon myself, but that's an option too. Selling online you will have the money, with the trade in program I believe it is a gift card for use only with Verizon and it seems they have all kinds of reasons to not pay what you are appraised and there is no option to get the phones back. I hope this is helpful!

So I just got off the phone with a Verizon rep and they told me if your business you retired from still offers a discount (Which mine did; General Motors) then you can simply go into a store and show them a verification of your pension from that company. Had to find alternate ways cause a work email or pay stub was not going to work. So if you are losing you discount then it is the business that has cancelled the discount, not Verizon, just sayin'.
