Even if the device is capable of working on the VZW (CDMA) network it is likely locked to the prepaid carrier and prepaid side of things for whatever period that carrier requires, prior to unlocking....
But yes, details on the device and who sells it/is packaged through will prove useful to answering this question accurately....
