Why am I receiving text messages from one contact and other contacts are not receiving my text?

I want to make sure you receive your text messages from every contact. I stay in contact with a majority of my contacts so I know its important. What happens when you try to send the message to the contact who cannot recieve them? Are these iMessages or regular messages?

The imessages are working now with help from chat. Not sure now if contact that was working (text message) is working now.
