The good news: You have options.
If you have insurance with Asurion you can file a claim. Depending on the phone the deductible will differ.
You can purchase a temporary phone (if your upgrade is not close) on Craigslist or eBay. **NOTE** Ensure you ask for the full ESN (Electronic Serial Number), IMEI (Hardware ID of GSM/LTE supported device. Similar to a MEID in CDMA), MEID (Mobile Equipment Identifier is a 14-digit hexadecimal character used to identify a device), and ICCID (Physical ID of the UICC, also referred to as the SIM card). Call VZW and check to see if it's already assigned to an account and or is stolen/lost. Do not allow yourself to get cheated.
You can also upgrade. Sometimes VZW will allow early upgrades if you are on 2 year contract and agree to move to Device Payment Plan. If you are on DPP, you can also buyout your phone and upgrade.

If you are eligible to upgrade (assuming you weren't under a contract or a Device Payment Plan that wasn't paid off yet) you can get a new phone and either pay full retail upfront or enter into a new Device Payment Plan. You can choose to purchase a used device from an outside source (eBay, Swappa, a friend, etc).
