Question mark in messages

I have just changed phones from 4S to 5S. Incoming pics in MESSAGES first say DOWNLOADING then have "?" In box. I can send pics. How do fix this?

Two steps to try, resolves in most cases

  • Try settings > general > reset > reset network settings. Your phone will do a restart and should come back on with Messages working properly.

  • go to settings>messages>turn imessage off. when you turn it back on, works for new messages.  for old messages, you just have to click on details for the message and there it is.
