If you have find my iPhone turned on you can go to icloud.com and then lock the device. You can also track it. You would need an active connection to do so. If you do that first then call to temp suspend your line you can do that just in case you can find it.

I've lost my phone, number [phone number removed per the Verizon Terms of Service]. What should I do? Should I disable it and, if so, how do I do that?

I'm so sorry to see you are dealing with a lost phone, Charlessalzberg. That can be an unsettling feeling.
We recommend suspending the phone to prevent anyone else from using the phone or to prevent them from using the phone on their personal account.
If you have an iPhone, you can check to see if you have Find My iPhone enabled to see if the phone can be located. You can also remotely erase the content from the device. Check this out http://spr.ly/6606EUa1q
We hope this information is helpful.
