Forget the Verizon backup. It's junk.
You can set the iPhone up in settings to do automatically which can be done through iTunes and Apples server.
Can be backed up manually or automatically through the settings.
All of this is in your owners manual. Or view the steps at http://www.apple.com under the support community forum.
Good Luck

Is it possible to set my IPhone 5S to automatically backup to the Verizon cloud or to backup assistant. The only settings I see is where it will remind me to do. Can it be set to automatically do this, like my Droid did.

Unfortunately I don't use the Verizon version of the cloud. It does not work as well as the backup on the iPhone.
You can set the iPhone to automatically back up in the phones settings. http://www.icloud.com
Can be set to backup contacts, music, and other things.
You must read the manual located in the safari browsers bookmarks on your iPhone or download a PDF version from http://www.apple.com under support.
Good Luck

I can assist Todd536! iCloud will automatically back up your iOS device if iCloud Backup is enabled (Settings -> iCloud -> Backup & Storage) and the device is connected to Wi-Fi, connected to the charger or the device screen is locked. Thank you.

Thanks Jennifer for responding, but the link you attached is not working. I am only finding in the settings where it will remind me at certain intervals when to back up. Also the app doesn't seem to work in the background. every time I open the app it continues the restore from where it left off.

@Todd536
Sorry for the problems you are experiencing with the link provided! I would like to suggest another great tool for configuring the Verizon Cloud service for backing up your iPhone 5s device: http://vz.to/1fbvle1, and here are steps for managing settings in the Verizon Cloud for the iPhone: http://vz.to/1fbvvSL. Let me know how this works out for you. Thanks!
