Which phone do you have? The answer will determine the answer to your first question.

Generally you can't remove the factory installed applications without voiding the warranty. Some phones allows you to disable the applications.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Ann154 is correct, you can not remove them. However, some of the new phones will allow you to hide them so that the icons aren't showing in the apps drawer. Launcher, a free apps, will also allow you to hide them. Bloatware, as these apps are appropriately called, are the bane of all cell phone users, and have been around since cell phone no, 1.

Can legal action be taken against these carriers? What they are getting paid to allow people to put these apps on the phones.

Therein lies the rub.  The carriers are getting paid to have these apps on thier phones and also that they be non-removable.  Also they do pass on the savings to us, the ultimate consumer, to help keep the cost of new phones down.  Most customers would rather have some "bloatware" on thier phones in exchange for a lower price.

As far as legal action, sure, if someone wants to front the money for a long protracted legal battle, go for it.  But again, in the end besides winning a phone with no "bloatware" on it, the cost of the phones will be generally higher.  So, if you do it, don't expect the majority of wireless customers to come beating down your door to say thanks.

Myself, sure, I'd prefer no bloatware, but with memory amounts getting so high now, they don't affect total memory and I just have trained myself to just not even see them anymore.

Well I have to disagree with passing the savings on to consumers because

most phones are priced to there capablities. Low-tier, Mid-tier, and

High-tier phones. The carriers won't us to believe that when in reality we

pay $720 data (4gb), $1,440 Phone & text (450m & unlimited text) over 2

years we consumers are losing. What are the discounts if I pay full retail

for a phone, nothing!

Those amounts are for SERVICE and have nothing to do with the price of the phone. Also the "full price" of the phone would likely be higher if they could not pre-install apps. Would you be willing to pay $700 for GSIII instead of $600 if the phone came bloatware free? I do think that after a certain period of time you should be able to remove them.
