unlocking android phone

Hi can anyone tell me how I can unlock the droid phone?  Without my knowlegde, there were too many attempts to unlock my phone while it sat in my purse.  It says my gmail email and password are invalid.  I entered it several times and no luck.  Of course there is no customer service on Chistmas and a weekend on top of that.  Any suggestions?

The first thing I would recommed doing is going to gmail from your computer  ( http://gmail.com ) and logging in with your user name and password just to verify that you DO remember what they are with certainty.

Then, turn your phone off, and back on, and very carefully enter your name ans password just like you entered it on the web page.

Remember that your password is case sensitive.

Thank you, I did confirm online my username and password and turned the phone on and off, even removed the battery.  No luck with that. Thanks.

Your other option, then, would be to do a factory reset of the phone, and re-set it up again.

Turn the phone off, slide out the keyboard, hold the "X" key while turning the phone on.  Keep holding the "X" key until you get a screen with a triangle and a yellow exclamation point.

Press and hold your up volume key and while pressing it, press the camera key.

use the D-pad to select the "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" option. (Press the center D-pad button - the gold one, to actually do the factory reset. (This will wipe EVERYTHING from the phone, including any pictures/songs/data on the SD card. taking you back to "out of the box" settings on the phone.

If you have anything you need from the SD card such as songs or pictures, put the SD card in a card reader on a computer and get those items off the phone first...!

After doing this and restarting the phone, it will walk you through re-setting up the phone.

Any apps you purchased from the Market can be re-downloaded again for free (They will show up as "purchased" and will not be charged for again, as long as you sign into the phone with the same google account you used to purchase them in the first place.)

I had the same thing happen. Just a remark about the next post (bkfist) , is that your phone went past the amount attempts. If you stop, after 2? attempts, he is right, it will instruct you to wait 30 seconds and try again. If you go past that and do another attempt it goes into the permlock state!!  I called HTC tech support and you have to do a hard reset (Losing all your data).  I had just gotten my phone and had not setup an account with google to get my contacts & etc back.  Your best bet is to call HTC tech because I do not remember exactly how to do the hard reset. If my memory is correct,  Hold the power off button(red) and 'OK'  the power off command. Push the volume 'down' button several times. 1st try : Hold the green button down while pushing the power button(red) and the screen will ask about doing a hard reset. If that didn't work you may have to hold the down volume button  at the same time as the Green and  power up button(All 3 together)  Please note that I not exactly sure about this, as it happened some time ago, so if this did'nt work, call HTC tech support.   Good luck!

Se said Droid, generally most people refer to the Eris, as an Eris.  The instructions with the X key were the instructions for the Motorola Droid.

If it happens to be an Eris, to do a hard reset on it you:

1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the Volume Down and Send buttons.

2. Press the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume Down and the Send buttons.

3. Follow the instructions to complete the hard reset.
