You guys are some SERIOUSLY mis-informed kids.

First off, your problem isn't with Verizon, it's with Google. The very same 2.2 APK that you have is nearly identical with the Nexus One's, which had 2.2 first. They also came preloaded with apps that most people don't use, such as Google Goggles, and Twitter.

Secondly, You make an agreement with Google allowing them to make these changes to your ROM, otherwise you wouldn't recieve updates but I'm sure you wouldn't mind that, amirite?

Verizon literally has zero (0, nada, nilch) part to deal with how your ROM is created.

Take a chill pill and contact Google.

P.S. The only reason why you would need a Task Killer is for programs that aren't responding. Otherwise if you're using it to kill processes/tasks on updates 2.1+, you're doing it wrong.

I was going on the assumption he was talking about the Vcast stuff, and/or Carrier packages that they put on devices, and not specificially Facebook, Twitter, Google search, YouTube, Google Googles, Latitude, Places, Amazon MP3, News and Weather, Google Talk, and such that came with Froyo lol. (Just some I wish I could remove, but some of them are integrated into stuff I do use).

I have one in front of me. Above are a lot of the apps on the Nexus One, and I don't personally use. Some are bundled together so if I want to remove places I would have to uninstall maps updates which is bad >.<

Well i am bugged here I wanted to edit my post. If you want to find out how many apps are loaded on the Nexus One that is not stock just root and use Cyanogenmod without the Google apps. Also I believe Cyanogen adds a few apps but they are easy to figure out what they are.

mike i think your wrong here.  google gives samsung the general android.  samsung then alters it to fit the phone and the provider.  do you really think google set bing as the default search engine?  ive even heard of it being embeded in some phone so its not so easy to search with google.

verizon my have very little to say about the main kernal, but they do have a say as to some of the software in the rom

The only reason that occured was because Google placed Cease and Desist order on Cyanogen because Android itself isn't proprietary software (Well in a sense it's not, that's why it's Open Source); However Google products (Gmail/YouTube/Maps) aren't allowed to be edited and redistributed.

 Incorrect.

Google gives the X.X APK (Found on Google's Android.com website itself) to Samsung.

Samsung overlays it with TouchWiz.

Bing goes to Samsung (or Vice Versa) and profits insue etc.

Bing is now the default search engine.

This can all occur because of the Open Source nature of Android. Verizon probably only dictates the Visual VM in the build.

Also, I think the only phone that's really default Android is the Droid. I'm not too sure if the Ally has slight changes to it's build but I think it does (I may/maynot be right/wrong, but unsure. Someone correct me if you can). I would say the only "Crapware" that's installed on the phone for the Droid would be Visual VM, and that's because it's not free.

Also, while we're on the subject, the biggest "crapware" of them all would be any UI that's NOT bare-bones Android (A.K.A Motoblur/TouchWiz *cough*).

EDIT: Upon reading new posts, I want to correct myself. Verizon does take part in the editing of the build. With perhaps an app or MAYBE 2. Be thankful you don't have a BlackBerry.

All those "crap apps" subsidize the price of your phone. The manufacturer and/or carrier add those to minimize loss from selling a $500+ phone for $200-. And no other carrier is any better. So what are you going to do, file a law suit? I think it's a load of crap too, but it's a fact of living in capitalist society. If you really can't handle it, root your phone and void your warranty. It's not illegal, but if you turn your phone into a fancy paperweight, it's on you. I rooted my Eris, it's fast as lightning, the battery can and has lasted a full 24 hours, and I have Froyo, not to mention 90+ megs available internal memory, but if I screwed it up, I would have been back to my old chocolate. Oh, and as for task killers, http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/?wpmp_tp=0 learn something about your phone.

I have to both agree and disagree with the TC. Yes they are going to be apps installed that you will not use even if a gun is put to your head, and it would be nice to remove them. On the other hand though, who cares? It's not as though having them will make your phone any less cool than it is.

I have an iTouch and it has apps on it I don't use and never will. So what do I do? I ignore them plain and simple. I still enjoy my iTouch and do whatever I please with it as though the preinstalls weren't there to begin with.

If you can make folders on your Droid like you can with an iTouch, then just make a folder entitled "Crap" and put all the apps you detest in there and leave them be.

I am no Droid-pert (Droid expert) but I do read the forums alot so that when I get my own I will be a pro (lol). I have seen many people say that any kind of task killer is bad (even on Motorola's forum---yes I frequent there as well as DroidxForums.net) and besides being bad, it aslo seems to be useless since the killed apps restart themselves later anyway. It's like trying to out a fire with a fan.
