i'm looking for an anti-glare, oil free screen protector for my Eris. any suggestions on a brand & where to purchase?  the screen protectors i purchased thru VZW are not working to well. when i went back to the local store the rep told me VZW don't sell those type for the Eris.  believe i saw a thread in this forum with someone recommending the protectors from Boxwave.  does anyone agree if this brand works well?

Your Eris (and the Motorola Droid for that matter) have an oleophobic coating on them.  Oleophobic means it tends to repel oils, which is why you can so easily wipe fingerprints off of the screen with a light swipe from a cloth.  It is also why the screen feels very slick to your dry finger tip, but a bit "sticky" to a damp finger like after you have just washed and dried your hands.

Any screen protector you get without an oleophobic coating is not going to give you the same smooth, slick feeling that you get from the phone without film on it.

I am not aware of any oleophobic coated screen protectors that would provide a similar oil free surface.

Most anti-glare coatings are going to actually "dull and blurr" the display very slightly, It's just the nature of any surface that is anti-glare to do so.

Depending on how you carry your phone, and how careful you are with it, a screen protector is not going to provide any real benefit.  The screens on both the Eris and the Moto are a relatively hard glass, not a plastic, and are pretty resistant to scratches.  If you carry it in a pocket with keys, change, other hard objects, then a screen protector might be of benefit, but ifyou are carrying it inside any kind of case/pouch etc. the screen protector will not really give you any great benefits.

I did not like the screen protectors that I purchased through Verizon either.  I have always had very good luck with the screen protectors from BoxWave.  http://www.boxwave.com  That is the one I am using right now.  Also, their screen protectors cover all of the glass unlike the Verizon ones.

Try www.zagg.com

It is called the invisible shield.  I put one on my phone about a month ago and I love it.  It is not as "smooth" as the plain screen, but when typing I get better results now than before I put it on.  Less typos and such.  It is not slick and it does not clean up quite as easily as the plain screen but it is easy to clean.  But you don't have to worry with what you use to clean in like you did with the regular screen.  I can wipe it across my pants leg and not worry about any scratches.  I couldn't do that with the regular screen.  I would recommend them to anyone.  My son was the one that told me about it.  He put one on his Moto Droid.  I have the Eris.  But they make them for just about any phone on the market.

The Invisible shiled screen protector is nice but only as a body protector. It has an orange skin texture and a rubber feel which makes it difficult to use the screen.
I am not sure what you mean by "a body protector", "orange skin texture" and "a rubber feel".  I don't believe we are talking about the same thing.  The Invisible Shield that I am talking about is a very thin piece of "plastic" that goes over your screen.  It does not cover the body in any way.  And it is not orange skin texture nor does it feel rubbery, at least to me.
As I said in my first comment.  You say it makes it difficult to use the screen.  I have better use of the screen now that it is on that before I put it on my Eris.

After reading up on the boxwave protectors, they are "replaceable".  They come in a three pack.  The Invisible shield has only one in the pack because it is guaranteed for life.  If it ever scratches or tears, Zagg sends you a new on for free.  And as I understand it, if it does scratch or tear and the product it is on is scratch, Zagg fixes it.  I may be mistaken on that, but that is how I understand their site information.

Good news!!!!!!!  You DON'T need to waste your $$$ on a screen protector for your Eris (or Moto Droids either).  Here's why.  Both of these phones have a glass surface that is called "Gorilla Glass" made by Corning.

I was going to by screen protectors for my Moto Droid, but happened to see these videos below that are all over Youtube.  My wife has the Eris.  She wanted a screen protector for hers, so we bought them.  Waste of money!!!  The Eris screen was not as responsive with the protector on.  I also showed my wife the video below and convinced her to remove it.  She did and has not regretted doing so yet.  If you get finger prints or dust on the screen, just wipe them off with a soft cloth.

Make sure you get a good silicon case for the Eris though.  Will protect the edges.

So, watch these videos and save your coin.

I know the Moto Droid has "gorilla glass".  I am not sure about the Eris.  However.  Even with the gorilla glass, my son got his scratched somehow.  He doesn't even know how.  And as far as the Eris.  I made the mistake of wiping it on my pants leg one day to clean something off of the screen.  Guess what.  A scratch across the screen.  If this so called gorilla glass is so protective, why do we both have scratches on our screens?

Get the Zagg protector.  Better safe than sorry.
