Is there a way to set a different notification alert on the samsung stratosphere for a text message & a voicemail message?  I chose an alert that says you have a new text message but the same message is repeated when I get a new voicemail which I do not like.  Also is there a way to set how often you get reminder alerts when you have messages.  I could do that on my old phone which was great.  Sometimes I don't have my phone handy and unless I specifically look I have no idea that I have a missed text or voicemail message. I really like the reminder alerts.

I believe that voicemail uses the system default notification. You can set this by going Home page > Menu> Settings > Sound settings > Notification ringtone. You can also set a specific alert for text messages: Home page > Messaging > Menu > Settings > Select ringtone. As long as you set these two to two different tones, they should be differentiated. But I'm new here, only had the phone about a month, so I could be wrong!

I don't see a way to set the timing of message alerts, though, but if somebody knows of one, that would indeed be great.

Thanks so much for your suggestion but I still cannot set up a separate notification alert for a text message and a voicemail message unless I am doing something wrong.

What are you doing to set up each of the notification alerts? Like I said, I'm a newbie, not an expert, but if you can tell me what you're doing, I might be able to help figure something out.

Thanks so much!  I tried it again and it seems to be working for now.  Also I found an application "missed call reminder" which allows you to set up reminders if you have a text message or voicemail message.  That seems to be working great so far. Thanks for your help!

I'm also having trouble knowing if there's a voicemail message or missed call. Is the application on the phone or did you download it? The text message shows up as little numbers next to the messaging icon on the home screen but when I had voicemail nothing shows up. Thanks!

You should definitely download "NOLED" from the app market.  It is really the best one out there.  You can size your notification icons and give different colors for individual notifications.  I was pretty disappointed when I found that there was no notification LED, but after downloading this, I would want to use this one even if my Stratosphere had come with an LED.  I guess it makes sense for Samsung to not include one if there are a few free ones on the market.  Even if they just spend 50 cents on each LED, they are saving money and making the device more affordable for us.  If a first run on the phones is 200,000, that's $100,000 savings.  I really have no idea how much they pay for the stuff, but that's just a guess.  I hope this helps.  You should at least give it a try, it really is the best one out there.

I just tested my voicemail (had to call myself, so far I've had the darn thing with me and turned on every time someone has called!), and found that there was a notification sound (the system default notification, which you can change in Home page > Menu> Settings > Sound settings > Notification ringtone), and also a little icon in the notification bar at the very top of the screen (a balloon with a tape).

I think the trick with these phones is learning to look at that notification bar often. To check the notifications there, you put your thumb or finger at the top of the screen and swipe down, pulling down a kind of "window shade" with notices in it. I can definitely see how adding an LED or some other more obvious notification system would help.

I downloaded the missed call reminder free through the app market.  Seems to be working great so far.
