Based on the recommendations I have received from this post and a few others, I decided to do a factory reset. I also uninstalled Facebook and the Facebook messenger app. It appears to be back to normal now. My battery life seems to last almost as long as before. I backed up to Samsung Kies and the only thing I had to re-install were apps on my SD card.
Actually my s5 was doing all the same things as yours, with the addition of
UTube, and Google Play Music turning them selves on and running unknown to
me in the background. So I was draining my battery and bleeding Data. But
here's the twist.....I was running KitKat. The Lolipop update has cured
most of those problems. So you have to ask yourselve, is it really the
operating system? Or some kind of incompatiblity issue with one of the
In 2 weeks now I've done 2 factory resets, countless "battery pulls" and after a discussion with Verizon Support today, there are still issues--like the LED notification not showing when the phone is on silent (you know, when you really should be able to SEE that you have a message..)...worst update I've ever experienced...The only plus is that after 2 FDRs the lag between apps is somewhat better and my battery lasts 50% longer than it did right after the update.
I fixed the phone after running the trouble shooting repair program from Verizon. It's better then a factory reset but still you loose some things so best to back up what you want. And I would take out the sd card before starting. It took over an hour but after the process ran the phone is back to it's old self. All problems are gone.
Glad your up and working Ok and the Verizon repair tool for your information is very close to doing a factory data reset.
I'm having the same issues, all after upgrading. Verizon needs to make a downgrade to kitkat available to us until all these issues are addressed. The phones are just shy of being bricked. And what will happen to anyone whose phone ends up with overheating damage caused by the software update?
This is so extremely frustrating. I don't have hours of time available to deal with a problem I didn't create.
