Recently I've been having intermittent, unpredictable problems with the Google Maps app on my Stratosphere. Sometimes I can get my current location on the map, sometimes I get the message "Your location is temporarily unavailable." In a few minutes this may clear up (so there's not an issue with the settings on the phone), or it may remain unavailable for a longer time. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this in the last week or so, possibly indicating some issues with Google's servers. If not, it may be just random, or may be related to other intermittent data connectivity issues I've been having with the Strat.

Do you leave your GPS settings active all the time or not? Which settings do you turn on?
You can also use "GPS Test" application or "GPS Status" application to reset the phone's location in relation to the satellites.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I turn on GPS before I try to get my location. (If I don't, I get a different message saying that I need to turn it on.)

That’s very odd @Dave-in-Decatur! But don’t worry because I’ll do my best to help!
Is this something that just recently began happening? Does it happen only in certain locations or is it random?
Try removing the SIM card for a minute or two. Re-insert and retest. This will help refresh the connection.
Keep me posted if you need further assistance.

It seems to be pretty random (both in my house and while driving around, for instance), and it has been happening more frequently in recent weeks.
I went to a Verizon-owned store this week about larger data-connectivity issues, and was given a new SIM card and told not to use WiFi (which I had been doing, with my home network, when data connectivity disappeared) for a few days, as this apparently confuses the device. I'm not sure whether this has helped the "location unavailable" problem. I need to give it a few more days and see, I think.
