lollipop update

Keep losing service on my GS4 since the update. Tried getting help from Verizon and was told their was a software fix. IN reality is it s factory reset.  My contract is up next month and I am gone. Too many people have this problem and Verizon is doing nothing to fix it.

You mean, Samsung hasn't done anything to fix it, which also means you will find the same software issues on any other Samsung or updated S4 at any other carrier as well.

So I should not expect Verizon to hold Samsung responsible for a bad update? I pay Verizon for service not Samsung. The onus in on Verizon to make sure things are working.

chrisinny,

We do not want you to go. Sorry to hear of the issues you are having. Do you seem to lose service in a specific area? If so, what zipcode are you having these issues in? Do you have a case on your device? If you remove the case does the service improve?

Really it is on Google and Samsung to make sure that your software functions properly. This is not a network issue and is not Verizon's responsibility. However, if you refuse to do a factory reset you can't know if the issue will be fixed and you can't complain either. Everyone that I know with an Android device receiving the Lollipop update has done a factory rest to make sure that nothing from KitKat is interfering. Your choice to do it or not but it is highly recommended.

I did the factory reset and it only partially helped. My phone was only getting about 1/2 it's normal signal strength after the update. The factory default got the signal strength almost back to normal. But I Lost signal today and the phone (galaxy s4) refused to re-acquire when I got outside to a place with full signal. I had to power down and restart the phone to acquire signal.

I personally believe the problem belongs to all 3 - Verizon, Samsung and Google.

Google wrote the new OS, so they should have made sure it would work.

Samsung should have made themselves available to Google for testing and Quality Assurance purposes.

But ESPECIALLY Verizon should have made sure that Google and Samsung had their stuff ready before forcing this new OS on us and should be reacting in a positive way to resolve this issue for their customers. Ultimately, Verizon takes our money, so Verizon should make sure we have a positive experience and get what we're paying for.

I blame the names of the upgrades. Kit Kat, Lollipop, etc.

All this candy stuff gave my phone diabeetus!

Well, here we have a classic example of what I spoke about in other previous posts. Verizon held on to this upgrade. Probably knowing that it was not great for us as customers. However, there are numerous threads here where people were angry that we weren't getting it as quickly as other carriers, who were also having issues with it. So LOTS of people were complaining that they weren't getting the upgrade and it was released. NOW everyone is up in arms that there are a bunch of bugs.

Here's what....

Google makes the update then the manufacturers change it with their own skins and UIs. They add and subtract at will what they want to. Me? I was looking forward to the built in flashlight. LG took that away. This delays the process. Then they send it to the carriers to release to us? Why? I don't know. Now, don't get me wrong, I absolutely will not by another iPhone but Apple has it right. They control the software and he release. Everyone gets it. But with Android, there are too many chefs in the kitchen before the main course is served. This is why there are so many problems. I would love nothing more than my LG G3 with the Pure Android Experience. Exactly what Google built into the software without LG taking camera features away or adding their own horrible skin. The fact is that I like the LG G3 form factor with the expandable memory and removable battery. This, to me, extends the life of my device. I can get a new battery when it no longer holds a charge. I can put my music on the memory card and I don't have to go through the hassle of hooking the phone to my computer if I want to a factory reset. I like it this way because I refuse to use data to listen to music that I already have purchased. So, all in all, I make the compromise.

Maybe they should offer it as an option, like Microsoft Windows. (not that I'm a Microsoft fan in any way) If you're happy with your present OS, you just keep doing what you're doing until it doesn't work any more. If you want the latest/newest thing, you update. If you're like me, you wait until enough people have used/abused and reviewed the newest version, then decide whether to upgrade or skip it and wait for the next revision.

Hmmm.... customer choice. What a novel concept.

Yes, I am aware that I still have a choice - Verizon or a different carrier.

All carriers force the update eventually.
