Well, just got a new PC tonight running Windows 7 64-bit. A whole different animal for sure from XP Pro. Imagine my surprise that Win 7 doesn't support Outlook Express, which was my primary means for backing up/syncing contacts and calendar between my PC and my Eris.  :smileymad:   Windows 7 wants me to use "live mail" If I'm going to do that, I might as well use gmail. Probably has more functionality anyway. I would have rather use neither and stuck with Outlook. Anybody know of any other good options for syncing contacts and calendar with a PC running Win 7?

Thaaaaanks,

D Dave

Well, I finally had some time to sit down and play with this new issue of not being able to sync with Windows 7, since it doesn't support MS Outlook. I decided to have a go with Windows live mail, since Windows says it's the replacement for Outlook. I spent a bunch of time getting all my contacts synced into it, but could not for the life of me get it to talk to my phone. And in spite of uninstalling and reinstalling HTC sync, it wouldn't function correctly and definitely wouldn't sync. So I called HTC tech support and was informed that the Eris will NOT sync with Windows 7...no how, no way! Peachy. So I ended up using Gmail for my contact and calendar backup afterall. It wasn't a total waste of time with the Win live thing, because I was able to create a CSV file from it and just transfer it to Gmail. So I did waste some time with Win Live, but at least it wasn't a total waste of time. And if you haven't tried Windows 7, it really is a huge improvement over XP Pro. It's very different, but the learning curve isn't too steep, and it does have alot of really cool features that XP doesn't. Overall, I think it's been worth the effort. Embrace change. :smileywink:

Yeah..that is the bad thng about Windows 7 ...no built in email client. I use Outlook and Google Calendar Sync . Their is also Companion link software for contacts and calendar...Free to try for 14 days then about $30.  This is a really good program

See the following links:

DD - not sure if this helps but you can get Windows Live Mail from Microsoft. According to the description:

Get multiple e-mail accounts in one program – Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo!* and more. And now Windows Live Mail has a calendar, too. Mail combines the ease of use of Outlook Express, with the speed of Windows Live.

I'll probably have a look at it, but frankly I've already got too many e-mail accounts I don't use. I think Gmail will do most of the same stuff and I've already got that. So if I have to get warm and fuzzy with something other than my default account, I might as well do it with one I've already got (and the phone is already set up for), rather than open another.
