Download the app called Save MMS. It saves pictures, audio and videos to your sd card. Then you should be able to save them as your ringtone/notification.

The default messaging app does not have an option to save text messages to the SD card.  They are stored in the phone's internal memory.

You may want to check on Chomp SMS, or Handcent SMS programs.  They might give an option to save messages to SD card, but I haven't used them since I had my Sprint Hero, and never looked at the options for storage.  I'm just not much on SMS text messaging myself, only to the extent that I reply (sometimes)  when I get one.

You can, of course, get a Google Voice account, use it for text messaging, and will have a full record available on your Google web account of all text messages sent and received.
