Your Droid and Your Eris: Why did you get it?

There have been a lot of discussions from "Help me for this or that" kind of thing going on, and not much just talking about the two phones. So my question to you all is this (Whether if you're a new poster or not): Why did you get the phone that you selected? What features really reeled you in to sway your decision, and are you happy with your choice?

I chose the Eris for a few reasons. Didn't really need a physical keyboard, from what I had researched the Eris was going to get an OTA upgrade soon (either to 2 or something close to 2 in form&function) and my upgrade was free (vrs $100 for the Moto Droid). Other than mediocre signal strength I like the Eris.

Have 2 moto droids - one for me and one for wife. Wanted internet browsing, email access, facebook access, texting.  I was already a gmail customer for personal email and Droid has excellent support there. I use Microsoft Exchange at work, but not a power corporate email user. Access to my inbox via the native email client has been ok for me so far.

Thought might want physical keyboard. Liked the screen on the moto droid. Wife uses the physical keyboard most of time due to her fingernails. I am not a fast keyboarder anyway and tend to use the touch screen because I like the word suggestions. Have found that you don't have to be that accurate on touch keyboard to get reasonable word suggestions.

After having it, we both like our phones, have been exploring various apps. I love the google navigation.

So far, happy buyers.

Got the Eris because I wanted a touchscreen phone with a touchscreen keyboard. It's better on my arthritic hands and problematic tendons on my arms. I tried the Blackberry Storm 2 and the typing experience for my situation was absolutely awful, as is pretty much any phone with a qwerty keyboard (although I don't have too much trouble typing on a computer).

And coming from an iPhone,  I'm really liking pretty much everything about the Eris, although I do wonder about its reception strength. My boss's Verizon Samsung can get a signal in our metal building while mine struggles a bit. That's with a tower 6 miles away, we understand that another Verizon tower is going up soon that will be a mile or so away. And there's always the Network Extender.

DROID   why is a long story. involving about 4 trips to the Verizon store and two trips to best buy Wait no three trips to best buy no 4 but the fourth had nothing to do with the DROID and only hands on experiences are documented below.  Oh nevermind it was a lot of checking this thing out before I bought it.

I had a long time to agonize over this.  I had been hearing about these phones months before they were officially announced.  I was watching the rumor mills when they finally got FCC approval and followed them through.  I got so excited and got my wife so excited then we went and played with them.  First all we could mess with was the DROID cause the store we went to didn't think the ERIS would sell so they didn't order any.  LOL.  The one we got to play with was the sales guys phone cause the store doesn't have any working models of any phones which was odd.  We both hated it.  So then we decided we needed to check out the ERIS cause of Sense and all that but when we finally found one we could play with neither of us could use the keypad.  It was ok if we turned it sideways but virtical it was unusable.  But at the same time I played with the DROID in the store and kind of liked it.  She still hated it cause some things weren't easy to figure out and readily evident.  If DROID had had SENSE we might have both ended up with one.  She also got mad at me that I got her all excited about such expensive phones.  So she did not want an ANDROID phone and was ready to switch to AT&T for the iPhone which made me cringe a lot.  So I said we needed to look at Blackberries.  They aren't as cool as Android but they have a lot of apps and have been around for a long time and some of the features are similar.  So I came up with a list of 3 most likely candidates and we made yet another trip to a verizon store.  While she played with feature phones and Blackberries and a few Winmo devices that looked cool I played with the Droid and Droid ERIS again and cemented my love for Sense but inability to use the touch keypad on the Eris and figured out more of the DROID and loved the speed and screen and the fact that even without the hardware keypad the touch keypad worked for me with a few but infinitely fewer typos so I knew what had to be done.  I used my new every two and leveraged every trick I could come up with and got me the DROID and while I wish she would have loved one of the DROID got her the Curve 8530 which was about 2 days on the market when she got it activated.  Love it.  We are both very happy.  Are there things I would change about the DROID? Absolutely but that would be true about anything.  Mostly I would redesign the hardware keypad but that would be about it right now.
