Unless you have some other sort of broadband connection wi-fi is not going to help you. If you are using Verizon as your internet connection even if you use wi-fi you're still using Verizon data.

Other than the fact both Hughesnet and Wildblue don't charge overages instead they throttle both are just as overpriced and capped as Verizon's HomeFusion. I might prefer WildBlue's Excede since it has a cap free time zone from 12 AM - 5 AM.

I will say for people like charlie that don't already have cable. DSL or fiber in their area the odds of them getting what I call "real" internet any time soon are slim to none. Internet there will be expensive and heavily capped for the foreseeable future. The only good bit of news is that speed of satellite and mobile data have gotten into the broadband range. Of course all that speed is useless if you really can't use it. People that want "real" internet will just have to move to those areas that already have it.

Just stating a fact and why I understand taxes. Who's bragging about IQ and Mensa, and taking SAT at 13, etc?  And you're right, IQ doesn't mean much if you don't have a little common sense to go with it.

Since this thread has gone all flamey, I might as well add my puff of smoke. Verizon has the most widespread network in the US. "Best" might be evaluated on other grounds as well, though. I live in suburban Atlanta. I'm paying for 4G LTE service, and I get that a lot of the time, probably most of the time. But I also get a lot of drops to 3G and occasional just disappearances of data service. I don't know if AT&T or anyone else is better, but I'd want to take the consistency of the service I'm paying for into account in determining what is "best."

Perhaps more to the point of the original post, we also have a place in the mountains of western North Carolina. No cable, not even DSL yet. Some folks use satellite Internet (Hughesnet or the like). I've been able to activate the Mobile Hotspot service on my smartphone and get Internet connectivity that way, mostly at 3G. But it is pretty flaky and easily drops out. Enough for e-mail and light-duty browsing, and even that can be difficult. However, AT&T has no coverage there at all, which is why we switched to Verizon.
