I have 1,000+ contacts on my Samsung Galaxy S3. Verizon Backup Assistant and Verizon Cloud will only back up 8 contacts when I sync. They are the various Verizon numbers plus a couple of contacts that I have entered. Does anyone know how to make all the contacts sync?

Hello Lanz
Thanks for reaching out! Let's get to the bottom of this. Are the contacts Synced with a different account? For example Gmail? Are you encountering a error message?
Here's a great link all about the cloud service and managing it: http://www.verizonwireless.com/wcms/consumer/products/verizon-cloud.html
I look forward to working with you and getting this backed up.

Do yourself a huge favor. Ditch Backup Assistant altogether and use Google to backup your contacts.
BUA Pros
Its is already on the phone
BUA Cons
Doesn't backup all of your contacts
Doesn't back up your contacts correctly
Mixes up numbers in backing up contacts within a single contact
Mixes up numbers across contacts
Mixes up or deletes altogether Addresses
Runs at scheduled times and is resource intensive
Google Pros
On your phone already
Immediate
Accurate
Importable
Exportable
Does NOT mix up Numbers within a single contact
Does NOT mix up numbers across contacts
Does NOT mix up or delete addresses
Updates on the fly
Can sync with outlook
Google Cons
You have to change a single setting on your phone
If you want it to sync with Outlook you need to download a software app on your computer to do so

Gmail
One word solution. I had to open a gmail for this purpose, but it resolved all my sync issues and transferred my contacts AND merged duplicates. I opened gmail account by "sharing name cards to gmail" then adding gmail contacts in settings on the device.
I have contacts on Yahoo and iCloud and from my GS3. They are all synced on my new Note 3
I was never able to have any success with Verizon backup assist and cloud. Don't bother.

I agree completely. The only thing I can say about Backup Assistant is I think it is very close to Malware
