Verizon selling faulty devices??

Needless to say, one can tell from the title of this post that I am pretty upset right now. My HTC Incredible 2 has been shutting itself off for the past week or so. It shuts down when it wants to and comes back when it feels like it. Sometimes I can answer the phone when it rings by pressing the BLACK screen where the answer button is; other times I can't do anything at all with the phone when it shuts down. At first I thought it was a battery problem so I went out and bought an external battery. Turns out that this has nothing to do with the battery... turns out, by doing some research online, that this is a known issue with this phone. When I Googled it, several forums came up with people complaining about the same issue and just today I read through these forums HERE on this site and find out that I am not alone in dealing with this frustrating problem.  I bought the phone 1 1/2 years ago so I took it back to a Verizon Wireless store. They did a hard reset and the phone came back on for a little while, but by the time I got home, the screen had disappeared yet again.  Today, I took the phone back to the Verizon Wireless store where I purchased it to see what can be done.

I was advised that my contract does not end until January, the warranty had expired and since I had no insurance on the phone, the only options were:
1. Buy a new phone at FULL price;

2. Buy a prepaid cell phone.

HUH?  I've been a Verizon Wireless customer for the last FIFTEEN years and this is the best they can do?? This hardly seems fair. I did not do anything to the phone to cause it to stop working. In addition, as I said, there seems to be enough information on the web indicating that the HTC Incredible (and other HTC models) have this problem. Why should I have to pay FULL price for a phone with a known issue??  I think they should either give me the contract price for a new phone or let me OUT of the contract.

Is the phone's operating system up to date? Did you install an new applications prior to issue starting? Perhaps you might have a bad application. You should always rules an application conflict from downloaded applications before testing the default OS and definitely before you replace the device itself.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I'm sure you're trying to be helpful but... I bought a phone to make calls and texts. The consumer should not have to think or worry about whether my "operating system is up to date". In other words, I have no idea. What I do know is that a phone should stay on when it's on and off when the user turns it off, not go on and off by itself.

Your "phone" is a pocket computer, and it is DEFINITELY the consumer's responsibility to ensure the software on their COMPUTER is up to date, why would your phone be any different?

In my opinion, no one should have to be a computer expert in order to operate a smartphone. The phone goes off and on by itself -- I'm not a tech and shouldn't be expected to find out why. The phone should simply work or Verizon should offer me a reasonable solution.

Place your device in safe mode for a day, see if the issue disappears.... if so, you have an app issue

If you want to figure out what is wrong with your phone and maybe get your phone to working again without having to buy a new phone or purchasing a refurbished phone you will need to try some of the things which these other long time customers are trying to help you.  Once you try them you need to come back to this forum and say the results were and we can move on to the next if required.

If you are trying to get your message to VZW, that will seldom if ever happen in this peer to peer forum.  The tech support people who come by from time to time will tell you exactly what you have already been told or links to web pages which will tell you the same thing you have already been told.

Meanwhile you need to answer some questions these good people have ask so you can get your phone working again they way it operated prior to the difficulty you are experiencing with it.

Thank you for your patience and very sorry about your phone operating in a manner it should not.  Like said here these phones today are very sophisticated.

Good Luck sir in getting your phone to operate properly.
