Verizon phone of choice?

Hi VZ community,

My contract is up with Tmo this coming weekend, and I am more than happy to get off of my plan with them. Although their plans are cheaper, the coverage was mediocre at best. I'm looking to switch to Verizon, but kind of stuck on what phone to get. I really love the HTC one, but as it wont be released until "summer" (I'd assume late July at least) this really is not an option.

My options (from what I've seen) right now are the S4, Razr Maxx HD, IPhone5, and droid DNA. The Note is too large for my liking at 5.5" and I don't feel ready for a WP8 jump yet. I'll break each down shortly for you, for my needs and concerns

S4: Great Phone, but currently only offered 16gb internal. I'm not huge on music which seems to be the big memory eater that is a pro for external storage Games, apps, and software I'm afraid will blow through the 8gb available. I'm also not a huge fan of the plastic.. (dont hate me)

Maxx HD: Least worries for me overall of the pack. Slightly concerned the lower end dual core may be a problem down the road as I plan on keeping the phone for the full 2 years. Would like other user opinions here. I've also heard the camera is pretty bad.

Iphone5: I've never owned an apple product, ever. No iPhone, iPod, iPad, nothing.  It would be a jump for me, and I'm not sure this is the right time. My friend's phone that I've played with seem snappy for a dual core older phone, and offered good performance. I know the 5s will be coming out in probably Q3 and apple isnt exactly exceeding expectations at the momment.

Droid DNA: Battery. I'm not a power user, but I get annoyed when my battery dies or I have to fidget with it to keep it on life support. I love the screen, the quadcore, and the specs, but not the battery. The lack of sd and only 12gb left after bloat almost discounts this one.

Any help would be fantastic. Thanks!

Have you held the Samsung Galaxy Note II? That is the phone I currently have, and love it. As far as I'm concerned, it's better the the S4 in one respect. It has a stylus. I know, a lot of people hate the stylus. I had an LG which used a stylus which I constantly lost; but with a little care, it is almost impossible to lose the Note II stylus. I use it quite often, mostly to jot down quick notes to myself. With the Samsung keyboard, you can use it to write into type email. The Note is also quite fast,

and the sound quality is excellant. I was looking at the S4, but because of the stylus, I'll stick with the Note II, I find it an invaluable tool.

Another sweet looking phone is the Blackberry Z10. It is not an android, but you might want to take a peek at it.

First, I wouldn't totally count out the HTC One, seems like there is a decent chance that this could be the month.  They said "later in the summer", not "late in the summer".  Doesn't make sense to me that they would wait too long.

Anyway, having said that, I was just making the same decision and went with the S4, and I'm very happy.   I personally like the larger screen (much bigger than the iPhone, and even noticeably bigger than the HTC One, though the two phones are virtually the same size), though for me the Note is too big.  It's got a beautiful display, and top of the line performance.  Also, I've just read about the S4's support for Verizon's coming LTE-AWS band - google it.  This seems an important factor for keeping you happy with your phone for 2 years.  Do you put a case on your phone?  The plastic is not great, but I've got the Spigen Neo Hybrid (silver) case on the phone and it looks great!  Which is another advantage of the S4 - yeah, there'll be a ton of them out there, but that creates options for cases and accessories.

If you're wanting to spend a few bucks less, I was impressed with the Droid DNA during my phone search, but the battery and SD card issues are certainly factors (and for the iPhone as well).  To me, the Maxx has been out too long to want to start a 2 year contract on at this point, unless cost is a factor.
