Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant...your experiences

I have never had the VZW SWUA work correctly.  With G2 plugged into the PC with drivers installed and mode set to Ethernet the software will try to read the phone, but then produce no results.  Not an "up to date" message or even show the phone model.  Just blank fields.  I ask in light of the anticipated Android 5 update and because when KK originally came on the scene and my phone had not updated for over a month past the release date on Verizon, a tech had asked me to try this program, for which I had never used on any other phone before and had not installed it from the phone until the call to the tech.

Anyone else ever used this program successfully?

Snn5,

I apologize for the inconvenience that you are experiencing with our Software Upgrade Assistance tool. I want to make sure we can get your LG updated. From your desktop a VZW Software Upgrade Assistance icon should appear on the lower-right of the task bar to start the update. If you are not prompted with this messages from you can then navigate on your Start Menu options.  Start > All Programs > VZW Utility Application > Launch Utility Application. Allow up to 1 minute for the app to launch and to check your LGs information.  Keep us updated with the results.

The program comes up and "searches" for the phone.  It just never produces any results.  I plug G2 in, select Internet Connection then Ethernet to run as an installer, and then select Check for Upgrade.  I have never even gotten this far in any other USB mode.  This is what I see:

As you can see, the software does check for the device.  In the next photo you can see the results.

This same result occurs when there IS an upgrade, such as with the KitKat update.  I tried this after getting the notification on my phone that the update was ready.  So, there was an update, but the software did not recognize that fact.

Thanks for the additional details Snn5! I know how important it is to have the latest software installed. Please provide your current software version on your LG G2, including build and kernel versions. http://vz.to/1E9LOrF

Snn5, it's working fine with the Droid Maxx I have. When I plug the phone into the computer they'll also be a red Verizon icon in the computer system tray. When clicking on that they'll be two choices showing. Check for device update or Update Motorola device manager. Is that showing?

Also in the Device Manager of the computer under Portable Devices and then locating your device. Have you tried updating the driver from within there with any luck?

Turns out Verizon nixed the LG Software from the phone before release, and for whatever they kept the Verizon software available to download and install from the phone's separate partition.  I haven't heard of a single user yet who has gotten this to work.  Drivers are updated.  It's just the VSA that is basically defunct.  Which, is unfortunate given some other phone models have a software recovery or assistant.  Only reason I even checked again was to see if it had updated its software after the strange KK update situation where the black model was updated almost 2 weeks before the white G2.  Software was not working then and Verizon reps were trying to get me to use the VSA, but they didn't understand why it didn't work.  And, I can understand that given their simulator still showed that the phone had the capability, which it did, until the software was removed from the phone.  So, in the end, there is no software on the phone to communicate with the software update assistant.

Though, if someone finds a way around this or if I am completely wrong, I'll own up to that since I just want this to work, but it isn't a huge deal i guess.  Never had it so I don't know what I might or might not be missing.
